Yes that is an interesting observation. Difficult to establish if it is a general type of criticism against militarism, or specific to the Peoples Liberation Army ? For arguments sake lets look at both possibilities.
When all is said and done all armies have military parades. The English appear to love the splendor of the changing of the guards, in Scotland we witness lines of marching men in battle dress, homecoming parades through their adoptive towns, Clones ?

The peoples army of China appears awesome both in terms of numbers, ( did you know that there are more women soldiers in the Chinese army, than there is population of the United States Of America ) and the precision of a huge number of people acting in unison. It portrays order regulation and planing all to a high order.
Admittedly, it reminded me in parts of Pink Floyd ( Brick in the Wall ). However one must take into account the philosophical contradictions, surrounding Communist China during the revolution. Mao clearly pointed to the supremacy of groups, as opposed to crass individualism. 8)

just a point, are you sure that you didn't mean the total number of soldiers in the Chinese army? I think there are about 300 million soldiers, approximately the population of the States.
Some people die at 21 but aren't buried until they are 65.

Yes you may be correct, I picked up the information from the net - however there appears to be vastly different estimates.
That said, one things for sure, there are lots of them :D

Just out of interest, do the United States Of America, teach their military that they are the best in the world ?
They do over here

Just a drill point of view !

During 10 years in the Scots Guards, I did at least 6 Birthday Parades and literally hundreds of Guard Mountings at Buckingham Palace, Windsor and Hollyrood. Being a piper, drill was not that important, (even although we did win the marching and discipline at one of the World Championships…, looked great but sounded b***** awful ! ) …, nonetheless, the RSMs made it their job to see that the remainder of the battalion was "perfect." Unfortunately…, judging from that video, our RSMs need to go back to Pirbright !

Iain,
You must have thought from a professional perspective, that the Chinese People's Liberation Army, where superb then !
They are guided by a number of well established principles, or at least they where up until the death of Mao. :D

If it was not for "the relative youngsters from over the pond" coming to our aid then it would be German jackboots marching up The Mall, and along Sauchiehall Street.(Which no doubt would be renamed Hitler Strasse)
I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

Possibly, possibly. They did however borrow from the RN forthe US navy and sent some of those men into hiroshima 2 days after the bomb drop.

Oh never mind I'm off on a tangent now!
