Dingy and Depressing?

Postby The Scouder » Mon Mar 21, 2005 2:54 pm

According to a story in yesterday's Scotland on Sunday (see link below) a new French tourist guide has not been particularly kind about Scotland, but two places in particular are singled out for particular scorn and guess what one of them's called? Discuss!

In contrast to some warts-and-all guides, the Routard is sparing in critical comments about actual areas of Scotland, preferring to damn the grimmer areas by ignoring them with Gallic diffidence. Exceptions include Dundee, which is described as "barely worth a day’s visit", and Campbeltown in Kintyre, which is described as "dingy and depressing".

To be fair to Campbeltown it has suffered from more than its fair share of urban decay and lack of investment. Let's hope if the Ireland ferry returns as predicted we'll see the start of an upturn in its fortunes. Even better would be if another boat were to come from the mainland (via Arran) or direct from Stranraer and deposit cash-laden tourists right in our midst.

Its not predicted yet goatie, unless one of those "gifted ones" in the Carradale thread knows different. No, we are still looking for an operator to bid for the tender. But if we do get an operator we’ll have a 6 – 8 month window to get our ideas sorted out to spruce up the place.
