Save our beds

Postby Campbell » Fri Feb 04, 2005 5:12 pm

The Save our Beds campaign group will be going to the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 24th February to present our Petition to the Convenor of the Parliamentary Petitions Committee. We are actively encouraging as many members of the public as possible to accompany us on this trip. We will be marching from Princes Street to Holyrood and will be led by local pipers. This event will be covered by the national media. Buses will be leaving Campbeltown approximately 7am.

Please support us!

The visit to Holyrood didn't take place, but the petition has been given to our local MSP George Lyon, who will present it to the petitions committee.

The Save Our Beds Campaign Group decided not to go ahead with the trip after our local GPs gave their backing to the health board's plan to convert the assessment and rehab ward into a new A&E department.

The doctors' position is that while they did everything they could to oppose the closure of the ward, the health board was not going to reverse the decision so they decided to support the new plan as it makes the best use of an area of the hospital which would otherwise lie empty.

Sorry I don't have an email address for the hospital but if I find one, I'll post it one here.

Hello Ranald,

thank you for answering!

Could you please tell me something about the "new plan"? Or can you give me a link, where I can read about it?

Thank you,
Tina

Tina,

All that has been made public, as far as I know, is that NHS Argyll and Clyde are planning to convert the old assessment and rehab ward into a new accident and emergency department.

I think work is due to start later this year.

Tina,

I haven't been able to find an email address for the hospital but you might have some luck from its website:

Hope this helps!
