Free electricity for Campbeltown :

Postby Iain » Sun Aug 11, 2013 4:35 pm

Hi all ! As nobody knows, one of my pastimes is inventions. Unfortunately; the majority of them, despite being “original” have already been invented. “Great minds think alike”! Lol !
Anyway, just as well sharing “my” invention with the wee toon.

Campbeltown Loch has one resource which as yet, has never been exploited..., tidal power !

My plan was to build a hydro-electric dam both sides of Davaar Island. Imagine...
At high tide in the Loch, the only way out for the water to low tide on the other side of the dam, would be via a hydro-electric generator/s.
Loch emptied and high tide the other side of the dam..., the only way into the loch would be via the generators.
Easy-peasy ! Free electricity ! Guaranteed ! Every day !

Another “dribble”-down asset to this idea would be that all fishing and boat links from Glasgow and elsewhere would have to dock near Kilkearn. This would create a “new” Kilkearn village. (a Campbeltown extension for taxes)
At the same time, this would create a fabulous wave-free Loch, ideal for yachts and sports.

Also..., it’s been a total loss for me to understand why Davaar Island has never been commercialised.
As I see it, it's imperative that the beauty of the existing view from Campbeltown should never change. Nonetheless, the far side of the Island could be transformed into a luxury hotel industry. Rooms, one over the other covering the whole far side of the island from sea level to the top would not only be beautiful, but it would encourage tourists from all over the globe. And this would also quadruple if not x10 the wee toon’s commercial centre.
Cartier, Dior and all the other luxury names would absolutely dribble over the idea of having a shop in the High Street.

Pity..., the town council doesn’t seem to have that much imagination ! ..., Iain.

Something not quite right about those two statements :)
Back to the drawing board Iain

Hi !
At that distance, a dam would be next to invisible at sea level if given the right camouflage. What I was talking about there was hotels plastered over the west side of the island.

AND --------- ye need a 7 metre fall fur the heid o waatter through the turbines ----- so wi a 3 meter tide -- ye wud hae tae build the dams at least 4 meters above mean high waatter level an use spare electricity [ frae Hunterston ?] tae pump waatter in ( pump storage system wi reversin turbines) efter high tide , { an flood the Toon }, an then let it rin oot fur gittin supply whin the tide wis oot !
Twice through the eye o' the sun to lift it.
