Thanks for the memories, Sir Alex, a Scottish legend!

Bobh, you're right, despite his glittering career he never once forgot his roots or how important family life was. I admire that.
Today he thanked the one person who made it all possible: his wife Cathy. Men need to do more of that!!

He worked as a barman in my local in the early 70's although I neither lived here and was too young to go to the pub at that time. My older friend bought his pram (twin pram) from Alex for £10 in the late 60's, as he also had twins.

I attended my local chapel for the late Sean Fallon's funeral mass several months ago. Sean was the ex Celtic assistant coach to the late Jock Stein and Sir Alex read the eulogy, Just to be there and listen to Sir Alex was fantastic.

He received a standing ovation and it was a pleasure to listen to some funny and brilliant stories which Sir Alex told.

I just ask myself when will ever we get someone Scottish like him managing at that level again.

It had to come one day but can't believe it's now! Man utd without Fergie.. will be strange indeed.

Who is they?

i have never had interest in football, which seems to have been a genetic thing in my family, as my late father had a hatred of the game, and I and my brother seem to have inherited this gene. I just think that football has gone too far in the direction of being commercial rather than sport, and I am sure that many football supporters will concur with that. In fact I know that to be the case.

I must however acknowledge that Alex Fergusson has been a huge success as manager of Manchester United, and find it exceptionally satisfying that he is Scottish, especially when so many football "clubs" as they are called (clubs they certainly are not) seem to have so many foreign managers, some of whom can barely speak English. (Having said that, some of the British born football managers are not too hot on English either)

Anyway, my point was that in spite of my anathema of football, Alex Ferguson provides a reason for national pride that a son of Scotland can make such an impact in his chosen field.

Apart from that, I be he was a right b£st%rd to work for.

The 70,000 that were at Sunday's game for starters!!

I think going out to Madrid knocked the stuffing out of him. He wanted another European cup, big time. But they could not have wished for a better man to follow him - I just hope that his remaining at United proves to be a positive influence.
