Chocolate Box

Postby glassblower » Thu Feb 21, 2013 5:05 pm

Thought there would have been some comment on the forum about the Chocolate Box closing down (have i missed it somewhere else on the forum). It must have great many memories for lots of people, it will be missed by me and the family as well as the locals.

Another of my favorite shops is Duncan Browns on Main Street, i can remember as a kid going into his first shop on Longrow South (small shop on the left coming into Campbeltown). I had a great collection of Arfix kit aeroplane's and can remember my dad taking me there and he bought me a "Gruman Gosling" kit which i made up (while on holiday) and gave it to my granny who lived in the Perfabs on Carlton Ave. Funny how you can remember things like that from way back (getting on for 60 years), but if you asked me what i had for my dinner last Friday i would be stumped for the answer !!!

Duncan's first shop was in Longrow, just next to Wallaces furniture shop (now Newgrove). When the furniture shop expanded it took in the premises that Duncan occupied. And of course The Chocolate Box was originally further up Longrow too.

Tommy Galbraith opened The Chocolate Box in Longrow when he gave up the icecream van. A real wee gentleman he was.

Aye, I can agree with that petewick, and many a good dram I had with Tommy over the years.
