POEM...My Era

Postby Mzz pasico » Sun Feb 17, 2013 3:39 am

Scott Mckenzie was singing o' flowers in yir hair; Played on a loudspeaker doon the pier, Glesca fair,
When our minds turned to love and affairs o' the heart; For the lads they were handsome, cheeky and smart.
Gone were the lassies, now woman were we; The world was our oyster, in the toon by the sea,
We were ready to love and have so much fun; Look out Maw n' Paw, the rebellion's begun.

To the Highland dancing each week we were sent; The fee? Half a crown, but to Woolworths we went,
Purchased lipstick and powder, the shade was "Pure Honey";Then feart to go hame for we' spent awe the money!
Getting dressed for a "date",we would preen and we'd look, at the mirror in the lobby that hung on a hook,
Till my Faither would yell! Be it Harry or Frankie; No gan oot like that, I've seen a bigger hankie!

Had to get changed, be more conservative when,I finally got oot; " You be hame here for ten",
Aye! That'll be right, as I ran doon the stair; Short skirt in the bag I'd change into elsewhere.
My Mother for me some clothing would buy, " No be seen deid in that", was my usual cry,
I'm gan tae "MAIMIES" for her shop's got fashion; Modern garments she sold, I wore wi' a passion!

Went to the beach, sometimes late at night,winna come hame till it was morning light;
"Jeest you wait m'lady", where the hell have yi' been; Ach sure I told yi', I wis stayin wi' ma best pal Jean!
Nae pubs for us, twas the Cafe Royal; Hot lemons an' toasties, Aye the lads knew how to spoil,
Then McConnachie's bus, where we had a rare laugh; Roon the scheme all night lang; Never told to get aff!

We were aye in the shelters, along by the prom; Me, my pals and oor lads, would gather there from,
The dance in the "Vic", whether mild or a storm; We dinna care, oor love kept us warm.
Now I look in the mirror at the woman that was; Legs bulging wi' veins, face dropped at the jaw,
As I hirple aroond for ma' auld hip's near done; I think o' the lassie that loved in the sun!
Where are yi' all now? I ponder this thought; For I think o' yi' fondly, and the memories you brought,
To this auld yin, who's April has turned to November; Those days wi' my pals, I will always remember! :D

How true that is, you were lucky, my mam wouldnt let me have a bag as they knew what would be in it had to wear my hankies under my regular clothes then hide the regular clothes until I arrived home (ususally late) remember the time I forgot to put the regular clothes back on.

Aye MPR we were up to all the dodges lol! Thanks Govan Girl.Mind the first time I bravely attempted to take a lad hame .....

Did somebody come in? did I just hear the door?; Only me, fae the bottom o' the stairs I wid roar,
We entered the room, stood by the setee, my arms roon my fella and his aroond me,
I thought we'd come in for it's freezin oot there, As I watched my faither arise fae his chair.
I'd like to introduce my boyfr.... "YID WHIT", Get him oot o' here, an look at the length o' that skirt.
There'll be nae lads in this hoose, yir far too young, To be winchin at your age... my boy was long gone
He took tae his heels like an Olympian athlete, whilst I so affronted, I started to greet,
Twas the first and last I took anyone hame, from then on did ma courtin in the wind an the rain!

Ach Mzz, that wis me, when ah wis fifteen years auld, when ah stood wi’ ma Jimmy in the Glesga cauld
Roon the coarner o’ ma hoose as we tentatively kissed, sweet thochts of romance in a Govan mist
When suddenly ma faither came into sicht and the love o’ ma life, he goat such a fricht!
Ah recall aw the shouting, the threats an’ the fear: tae no see him again, that was perfectly clear
But och Mzz Pasico, ah’ll noo tell ye the truth, it’s forty years later an’ we nae longer hiv youth
But Jimmy an’ I, we’re still thegither the day, an all thit remains is fur me noo to say
That when ma wee lassie gets hersel’ a young lad, ah’ll be watching him closely, ah know it’s bad
But ah’ve been in her shoes as a fifteen year-auld, an’ any male suitors will aye get bawled|!!!!!
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

Jings! GG, whit can a' say; fur yir verse sure stole ma he'rt away,
We 've came a lang way fae those days o' oor winchin
When oor faithers were strict n' wid threaten a lynchin
But as I think back, o'er oor great happy days,
Tae you n' yir Jimmy, I offer such praise,
Forty years later! Yi say, nae youth hiv ye noo?
But you twa have somethin sae honest n' true.
A love that hath lasted, fae that day t' this,
When he gave yi a ring, sealed wi'a kiss,
So, the nicht wen a' sit wi' ma wee glass o' wine
at ma dinner, I'll toast yi baith, this couple divine,
I'll wish yi the best afore a' sit doon,
GG an' Jimmy, fae auld Govan Toon. :D
