Blue Plaque

Has anyone ever read the blue plaque on the wall of a bungalow just before Lindsay's Vauxhall garage by the lights in Dumbarton? There never seems time to nip out on a red light to read it.

Yep, its where Jackie Stewart lived (may have been born not sure), his parent owned the Garage and he worked there too.

I know a blue plaque was put up on The Flying Scot's house but are the rules different in Scotland? I don't think a plaque can be put up in England if the person is still alive.

That's correct GG. The person has to have been dead for 20 years or 100 yrs old.

I always wondered what it was till I saw a programme about him, if it ever comes on the TV again, it is well worth watching, I had no idea how hard he campaigned for safety equipment etc. Made himself very unpopular at the time, but the lads racing these days with all the protective gear against burns have to thank him for his persistence. He lost quite a few racing colleagues to crashes and fire in the late 60s/early 70s.

I've put it on somewhere here on the book thread Bonnie Lass about his autobiography - well worth a read! He had a massive impact on safety and only a great driver with much influence and respect could have done this. He's a hero of mine, not just because of his unique F1 achievements but his personal battles. I really recommend his book :D

Possibly you are thinking about a program shown on BBC last year .It was called "The Killing Years",and was truly horrific.

Thanks Bill, I think you are right - also enjoyed the programme with James Martin and Jackie Stewart - most informative.
