Prefabs

Postby EMDEE » Sun Jan 27, 2013 5:47 am

I put a post on local issues and made reference to the prefabs, and their associated social life.

I thought it mught be better if we could maybe get a bit of discussion here?:

I know that there are a few former residents of the prefabs on the forum.

It would be interesting to hear if their memories of the prefabs are as fond as mine.

Just to give my own opinion, I think the social environment in the prefabs was second to none.

100% per cent in agreement. The prefabs were great wee hooses. Two bedrooms, separate bathroom/ toilet, kitchen with fitted fridge and of course front and side door.To top it off you then had a front and back garden with a coal bunker/shed in back.

Nice and handy for Dalintober School, but a long walk to The Grammar.

OH Happy Days.

I`m not a native to Campbeltown, but remember with great fondness my aunt and uncle`s prefab in Yorkshire, way back in the 50s, I loved it there.

I think i have mentiond somewhere on the forum about my "granny's" prefab at 16 Carlton Ave, i thought it was brilliant, the fire in the back room had two doors you could close and many "a row" i got off granny for poking hole's the Acertate windows set in the doors, i bet i am not the only one to have done that !!!

I think the last time you posted this it was commented on the first photo that the only buildings visible that are still standing are the former Customs House and the adjoining whisky bond, and possibly part of the Hazelburn Distillery :<>

The nearest house seems to have a thriving garden.

Were all the prefabs "detached"? That would be a dream nowadays !
