21-12-12-Is this the End?

A friend of mine spoke to me regarding this last week and i did some research on it. Apparently the world as we know it will end on this date. The winter equinox-21-12-12.

It falls at the end of the Mayen calender and is one of Nostrodamus's predictions. The Earth, the Sun and the Galaxy all line up for the first time in 26,00 years and all hell will break loose. They reckon (experts) that the Earths' axis will turn, even so slighlty meaning climate and all sorts will change.

I was told that it was supposed to be 12/12/2012

I've never read or looked up any of this guys predictions although his name crops up frequently regarding doom and gloom that is supposed to happen, how many of his other predictions have actually come true ?

Now I have another dilemna, do I bother buying xmas presents and sending cards

Lol ! With all due respect Bobh ! Lol ! But how can the Earth, the Sun and the Galaxy be lined up when the Earth and the Sun are IN the Galaxy ! Lol !

Now..., what date is it ?

Iain, it's the date that is important- not the detail . I should have said our Solar System and not the Galaxy. It was a saturday night when i posted this topic

I'm writing it out now, just in case I get tongue tied on the big day Bobh
Perhaps the assumption that because the Mayan calendar ends on 21-12-12 the world ends, is due to that calendar being the "short term" one. There is apparently a long term Mayan calendar, and if we are really lucky, we will get one with the "Courier" this year instead of the usual issue.
