I want to buy a good quality digital camera that will give professional results.I do not want to pay silly money.Any suggestions or recommendations would be most welcome.I have been bidding on e-bay for this,Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ30 8.0 MP .Does it seem a good camera for my requirements?

I'm sure it'll be a very nice camera. Play with it a lot and show us your results. Don't forget that the camera only does some of the work and the rest is up to you. Good luck with it.

Professional photographers give professional results, not cameras ;)

I've never heard of the GE make, so good luck with that one. The Lumix (Panasonic) is a great camera with a cracking lens. Sorry I couldn't reply sooner, Roger.

Two comparison/review sites i have used in the past are:-

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/

http://www.steves-digicams.com/camera-reviews/

Hope this helps though it might confuse as there is such a vast number.
For info i have a "Canon A1100IS" which i use for everyday snaps and am impressed by the quality and functions. Most i have posted on this forum have been taken with it.

Dont know if you have bought your camera yet LR, if not think about what you want to use it for ie, general, wildlife, sports etc pictures. My grandson (age 14) is very interested in wildlife photography and has took some stunning photo's with the setup i bought him. After talking to the photogrphers who go to our local nature reserve i bought him a Canon EOS 500d, he found it very easy to use and is quiet a good "all round" camera. Over the last 12 months i have added a Canon 100-400 L series and a Canon 500 L series prime + a 1-4 converter. This setup is as you say "silly money" (price it up on the internet) but next year he is taking a photography course at school and he has just had an invitation to accompany a "professional sports" photographer on days out to learn the "tricks of the trade", so it could be money well spent if it helps him.
Whatever camera you get i hope you enjoy taking picture.
