There is a discount offer for weekend breaks in my local paper. One offer is for a trip on this vessel starting from London Docks.I thought that she was Glasgow based. This is the same vessel isn`t it?

Used to travel on the "steamer" in the early sixties to Cowal Games. My fave of all was The Duchess of Hamilton.

Mzz pasico, did you ever try the "Sausage Rolls" on the Hamilton, to me they were "spot on".

Oh glassblower I can't remember!! The only treasured memories I have of the Hamilton was going to Cowal games and to Glasgow, where, if memory serves me correctly a train was taken at Fairlie into the city?? I also remember when in the Grammar School my class had to walk down to the Christian Institute for P.E., but I and some classmates went instead "down the pier" whenever the Hamilton was in. Needless to say, Rector's office and belt spring to mind!

My father used to take us as children back to his much loved hometown every year for a fortnight's holiday from 1945 until circa 1962.One of the highlights was the crossing from Fairlie (usually) to Campbeltown, calling at Lochranza on the Duchess of Hamilton and occasionally the Duchess of Montrose..One of the features of this crossing was that once the ship was underway the crew used to form an impromptu band (accordian etc) and entertain the passengers royally. Have many happy memories of the Wee Toon and staying with my aunt Meg McCallum in the long lost Kinloch Place and later 7Lochend street.I spenda lot of time reading this forum and touring the streets on google earth.I look longingly at Auchalochy and the Backswater at Machrihanish where my cousin, Neil McCallum used to take me fishing. Catching Mackerel off the pier and generally doing the sorts of things that young lads seem to miss out on these days.We never saw much of my father during the two weeks. He spent most of his time with his old school pal Neil Mitchell who had a bar in Longrow!
