Does that mean the users will be Aqualibrians?

It's apparently not too late, I've been told that IF funding can be found, a flume can be added at any time, even when the building is finished.

Not sure how true that is or whether it's the council trying to keep people off their backs :?

Being a resident at the now renamed 'Aqualibrium View' -
(wonder if my wee flat's now worth a fortune!) :D -

a flume was mentioned at one of the public meetings & I remember the architect's comments about flumes being 'out of date' - don't know why?!
but mainly that they were expensive items to run - apparently the heat loss is major & from a 'health & safety' aspect flumes need 2 members of staff (top & bottom) to supervise. Is cost the answer here?

To flume or not to flume

Postby John S » Tue Apr 12, 2005 10:17 pm

Hi Willie, I think the question has to be what is it for? is it suppose to run at a profit? or provide leisure activities for locals & visitors? Not that I am opposed to Libraries but I've never heard of one running at a profit. While the cost of running a flume may have been identified as the issue I'm sure there are ways of marketing a flume time which attracts users, particularly in slack times, and therefore additional revenue. I don’t think it can be any more staffing intensive than when all these inflatable are in the pool. Do you think you would risk it yourself?

Sounds like a good idea to me, think it would be better to have it for fun sessions along with the inflatables, that way it would remain properly supervised

Got to agree John - the main consideration has to be to attract the max amount of people to the facility - they are the ones handing over their 'hard earned' at the door - not some guy who doesn't want a flume 'cause it spoils 'the look' he intended for the place.
Now would I risk it? - 'course I would - do they make flumes that wide? - 'cause if they do then the risk involved is for the poor sod a the bottom end!
