Famous Belgians

Belgium…, the country for which most idiot, "comic" British-artists use to replace the "Irish" joke. (Belgium, only a little bigger than Scotland and..., "name me a famous Belgian"?)

To the North..., we have the Flemish. (Dutch..., linked linguistically to Holland) Cannabis "free," legal euthanasia, Rubens, Van Dyke, Van Goch, Tin-Tin, Lucky Luke and the Smurfs to mention but a few..., plus the world's biggest diamond industry.
To the South..., the Walloons. (French..., and considered by many to be potentially linked to France) Browning FN, (British forces with their SLR's, GPMG's and 9mm's among others) ..., and the country as a whole..., the world's biggest chocolate industry, and the world's biggest beer producer.

Now, Belgium has been without a government for over 200 days, I was told today ! Surprise, surprise ! Some time ago..., we even spent more than one year without a government and the country still continued to pay its taxes and move on, without the slightest hindrance. One might even be inspired to ask such a stupid question as..., "what exactly are MPs there for"? Or perhaps..., "exactly what do they do with their time"?

Anyway, in the meantime.., it became my New Year's resolution to try to convince the whole world that members of parliament should only be paid six months-a-year, for six month's work. During a working month, they will create two working months for their secretaries..., who research their work and write their speeches. This would reduce GB parliamentary costs by a fortune. (especially as most of them are working in the "black," others are spending a fortune with their accountants to devise the best way to create fraudulent invoices..., while the others are using tax-payer's money to prepare their autobiographies)

Now..., where do I start ?

PS Campbeltown..., you are a lucky lot with your 20% VAT ! (Belgium has had 21% for the past 15 years !) And in addition, it's only because I'm in Belgium that I'm not prepared to be a Campbeltonian M/P candidate ! You lucky lot !

I have often wondered the same thing about Council office staff? They have maternity leave sickness and holidays but don't seem to take on the same quota to fill in. Makes you wonder if they could get rid of some of them permanently.

I'll get my coat

Wow !!! And I thought we were being hung, drawn and quartered !

Denmark ! My first Pipe Major in the Scots Guards was Robert (Bob) Kilgour, he settled down in Denmark. Saw him a few years ago judging in a Belgian pipe band competition.

Think she was british although she was born in Belgium.

Only Belgian I can think of is Plastic Bertrand. Not sure if he is classed as famous though :@ :)

EDIT: Wife has just said Rubens the painter was Belgian, so that's another one :)

Certainly the most successful Belgian in the pop charts has been The Singing Nun.Tragically she took her own life years later.

"Dominique" was a world wide hit in the early 60s.Needless to say I did not buy a copy, though there was a copy in the house.
