  Was actually the sender who suggested it to me

Trying to get jean to part with some of her recipes but she is not budging! You know what these farmers are like with their secrets!

It would be good to have some local recipes with local produce - anyone got anything which can be posted?

Recipe for something that can be posted

Postby WC1 » Tue Sep 06, 2005 4:57 pm

Would it not have to be something flat like a pancake?

You'd be good at cooking and baking Bubbly. What with that big wooden spoon you use for stirring things

Malky

I leave all the cooking, baking, baby walking, and bottle feeding to the chicks. . The best place for them is clucking and clocking in the kitchen

I'm the hunter, gatherer in the this old coop but thanks for the compliment.

While I'm on, how much is the petrol in yon wee quaint refinery across from the supermarket in Tayinloan? Last time I was there it was 2/6d and you got a free mug if you bought two gallons. I think Gerry Nugent's still got one of them.

Some of you may have noticed but for those who did not:-

I added a couple of recipes the other night

And yes they were from a reader who wishes to remain anonymous.

Cheers

Anyone local to Campbeltown, please:

I would like to make the Scottish Oven Scones, but don't know what 2 things are in the recipe:

castor sugar (is that powdered sugar that you put in a shaker?)
sultanas (?)

Thanks- :D

sultanas

Postby ullean's mum » Fri Nov 25, 2005 8:55 pm

raisins (in the U.K. we have sultanas, raisins and currants)
caster sugar is a finer version of granulated sugar, the sugar for shaker's is usually icing sugar i think.

Thanks, Ullean's Mum :D !
I would have never guessed at the raisins. We have very fine table sugar here. I guess that would work. I'll have fun with the new recipes.

Ullean's mammy knows damn fine that the Shaker buys his sugar across the road in the bakers. Are sultanas not from larger grapes? Maybe not as big as the grape that Morenish hands to Mrs Morenish in the morning for filling the troughs, but bigger than those used for raisins.

The only dried fruit of that kind that I'm familiar with are raisins, cranberries and prunes. Have to go to a specialty health-food shop for the big raisins?

Dorian, check with your supermarket, but I think sultanas are the golden raisins.
