Some photos of Common Seals

Postby Ship called Dignity » Thu Mar 30, 2006 8:41 pm

Thanks to Eddie McGuire, I added these photos tonight

http://www.visitkintyre.info/wildlife/c ... /index.htm

And to think their poor wee cousins in Canada are getting slaughtered!

Obviously these have been added quickly and don't suit those with dial up but I am re-arranging the whole photo section anyway! :-)

Some interesting shots there. They are strange looking animals, aren't they?

Awe!!!

Postby Annie » Thu Mar 30, 2006 9:58 pm

And to think I used to be married to one of these ugly buggers!

Ooops! Sorry!

Wrong species.

I forgot, that was American Psychotic Seals of the East Coast.

These are much cuter and probably easier to get along with, all you need is a bucket of fish and you are in there!!!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHA!

Honestly, great photos! I forgot how big the seals actually got. I see a couple of them are shedding!

Some really good pics there Eddie. :)
Sometimes when you are diving you get an inquisitive seal who will swim around you and show off their superior underwater skills and maybe nibble at your fins. :) Its really great to see. :D . But i've yet to get a picture of one.

Cheers

Sign The Petition to Stop the Seal Killing !!

Postby Machrihanish » Sat Apr 01, 2006 12:28 pm

Well folks, if you feel strongly about it why not help:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/566342047?z00m=78788&z00m=78788&ltl=1143890763

The largest commercial slaughter of marine mammals on the planet has begun in Canada.

By the end of the hunt, more than 300,000 seals are expected to be clubbed or shot to death by fishermen who hunt seals off-season to pick up extra cash by selling their skins. Almost all of their victims will be babies -- some as young as 12 days old.

During a recent hunt, veterinarians who examined dead seals concluded that 42% of the seals examined had most likely been skinned while they were alive and still conscious.

Polls consistently show that most Canadians oppose the hunt, but still the Canadian government and fishing industry refuse to end it.

But there is new hope on the ice. Canada has a new Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, and a new party in power. With enough public support, they may consider ending this terrible hunt forever.

Sign this petition now and send it to anyone who cares about protecting the lives of Canada's seals.

We shouldnt stop there, why should people pull baby fish away from their parents and kill them.. And what about the poor wee calves murdered for beef burgers, and the cute little fluffy chicks, I dont even want to think about the lambchops.. And all this just because people want money to spend...
