I'm betting the majority have no backup at all.

Me. I have mirrored hard drives and I backup My Documents + certain other files nightly to a separate hard drive which is in turn backed up to DVD-RAM. I used to have off-site backup too but don't bother with that now

Wow, you have thought about your resilience and your disaster recovery project. Now are the hard drives 7 miles away from each other or in the same room!

Do you use any particular software so the backup is compressed therefore quicker and allows incremental backups only?

I use a few methods to back up different things..

I use the system back up facility to back up my documents folder, favorites, desktop and cookies to an external hard drive.

I back up all website files to an external hard drive and to my remote server.

I keep a hard copy of all my email addresses and server settings as well and keep a copy of emails on the server in a few accounts..

Anything else can be installed again.. everything important is in my documents (sometimes i manually copy the whole folder to the external hard drives as well.

Always reminds me of the old cartoon on the datacentre wall. Picture the scene:

Two biblical characters in their robes and sandals standing on a rocky path, one holding two large stone tablets in his hands, the other looking down at a smashed tablet on the ground. One says to the other:

"Moses, I take it you do have backups of commandments 11 to 15?"

Only ever really backup my docs and pictures onto an external drive, and put this is a fireproof data safe. Note to anyone with 'fire proof' safe, who is thinking of doing the same - make sure they are data proof. A hard drive will generally only withstand a certain heat tolerance before their ruined.

Been selling quite a few 16GB USB Flash drives lately.... Normally the 4GB's and 8GB's were popular....

Getting a good size now for most folk.... 4GB & 8GB Normally enough for most people's Doc's, Photos and emails etc....

OMG! I have never backed up my PC at home!!!!! How would you recommend doing it? I don't think it would be feasible to get all my crap onto disks, so should I get an external? Should I try and zip some of the info?

I am so lost?????

Thanks! Being the techy I am, I will have to write that down on a piece of paper when I take it to the store and then just give it to the salesperson!

It never even occurred to me that I SHOULD back up my PC at home - geeesh!!

Will give it a go, probably this weekend! Thanks a lot, I really do appreciate it!!!
