I report posts that seem to be just selling something that has nothing to do with this forum. Is there a more ulterior motive behind these posts or am I being paranoid? :?

Nope. I report 'em too. Whatever you do, don't click on any of the links contained within these posts. If you do, chances are that you're opening up your pc to all kinds of nasty.

We try to get them deleted as quickly as possible - but these spam posts are usually created automatically by programs. It's likely that we're an easy target because you can register and then start posting straight away.

You keep reporting them, and we'll keep deleting them.

The key thing, as Crowth says, is not to click on the links.

Hello LANDROVER ROGER,

You are receiving this notification because the report you filed on the
post "Re: The " Portrait "" in "The " Portrait "" at "The Kintyre Forum"
was handled by a moderator or by an administrator. The report was
afterwards closed. If you have further questions contact Mod8 with a
personal message.

Just as it says Roger, Mod 8 dealt with your reported post and closed the report to clear it out the system. The system then PM'd you to let you know it had been dealt with.

To try a cut down on the number of these spam posts I've changed the settings so that a new user's first post will go into a moderation queue to be checked before it is approved and displayed on the forum. Hopefully that should mean less spam appearing on the forum.

They get banned, and will probably get deleted when we do some housekeeping.
