Boot up

Postby LANDROVER ROGER » Sat Oct 16, 2010 12:01 pm

When I switch on my PC at home it tries to start and then the screen goes black with a horizontal broken white line across the bottom. It always flashed across previously and then went straight in to Windows XP.Now it just freezes on the black screen.Any ideas? :?

Can you get hold of another monitor (borrow) to see if it's not just the monitor? Even if the hard disk was knackered, I'd expect it to go through the BIOS stuff on the screen..

Check the Taskbar is not hidden down the bottom of the screen, or has been dragged/repositioned to either side...

Hover your mouse and see if the arrows appear to drag it back into place... Was the Taskbar there when the job was finished ?

Try safe mode and see if it is there also.... I have had 6 people in the shop in the last 2 weeks with botched repair jobs, by people who are supposed to be 'In the know' lol Why people actually go back to them is beyond me :?

They always come back to me in the end, to get the job done correctly lol

If you get stuck, give me a shout...

PS Windows may not have been installed 100% or some files may be corrupt....

Sounds like you may have a virus and or adware.
To sort all problems you should delete the system32 folder, it's a nesting place for many rogue programs.
It can be located under "C:\Windows\System32"
Providing lolz since 1337
