Never judge a book/singer by it's cover

Have your say....

Very good points Sheik. I hadn't seen it that way, & agree completely. Great example of reverse psychology.
We pat ourselves on the back 'for looking past her appearance & seeing her talent'. Aren't we just wonderful for it :!: Look how far we've moved away from our obsession with media's definition of beauty. We are SO rapidly evolving, aren't we :!:

 :(

The fact that we have spun her story around this pretty much epitomizes societies' shallowness.
What I especially like about Susan Boyle, from the little I know of her, is that she is apparently aware of the fact that this says WAY more about the people who are judging others than it does about the judged. I hope she doesn't change.
Suppose they held a war and nobody came?

She actually auditioned for Michael Barrymore's "My kind of people" show in 2000.She also attended a stage school when younger,so I don't think she is short on confidence.

In my mind she is far and away above the kind of caterwalling that the likes of Leona Lewis/Maria Carey come out with.

I thought her performance was spectacular. What a great voice. Re Ant and Dec, there are six of us in this household from adults, teenagers and young kids and we all love Ant and Dec.

There was a statistic floating about the other day, that 3 in 5 (60%) of Britons consider themselves a (frustrated) performer ... no doubt due to the popularity of karaoke. (I'm a frustrated rocket scientist myself)

My point would be that the producers of these reality shows (and especially Simon Cowell - who's £120 million fortune has increased, while all the traditional music industry big names have taken a huge financial hit due to the recession) .... know exactly what they are doing to assure high viewing figures. It's all psychology , ratings & viewing figures.

Maybe it's a bit like the lottery .... it could be you. Susan Boyle has re-enfranchised millions of hopefuls who want to live the dream. (it's gonna be me). and thought (while nursing a hangover from the night before) perhaps the dream had overlooked them.

She may look like the back end of a horse, but she has a good voice. Possibly with all the wizardly available in modern day recording studios, it may become a GREAT voice ... who knows.

Evrybody else ... keep dreaming & sinking the blue WKDs.

And haven't Ant & Dec (those cheeky scallywags that they are) made a remarkable career recovery since scamming the viewing public out of millions in bogus phone-in vote scandals !!!

After all I've been hearing about how the media turned on the poor woman, Susan's story just about sums up our culture: we build people up and then we attack them.

Stavros Flatley had me really laughing out loud - what a fantastic night of family entertainment!! I'm glad for Susan's sake that she didn't win but I'm sure, and I hope, she will have a huge career ahead when she recovers from her exhaustion! Lots of really talented people. We personally loved Diversity, Flawless, Julian Smith and the Flatleys!!

I know that Diversity are brilliant, and I loved their performance, but I adore Stavros Flatley, and I think the Queen and the Duke would have loved them!

Congratulations to Susan Boyle...No.1 in the U.K. charts and now also No.1 in the U.S. charts.
When was the last time you could say that about a Scottish solo artist ?

I`ve just bought her album for one of my husband`s Christmas presents. She has a beautiful voice, but I hope she`s looked after properly, she`s made of different stuff to your usual recording star.
