Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley

Have your say....

Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley

this is a song that over the last few weeks, i personally have come to dislike. although nobody can deny that its a beautiful piece of music, could we say that the increasing popularity of this song has taken away from its 'aura', its certain appeal that it maybe once had to people who held it dear to their hearts. im not suggesting that its a necessarily a bad thing that loads of people are now discovering this song and from it buckley's work, but maybe my original point could be sympathised with?

also, how do other buckley fans feel about his newfound exposure from the recent increased popularity of hallelujah? personally, i believe that an artist with such a unique talent and musical pedigree does not need (in the slightest) to ride on the coat tails of a reality television programme. as for realeasing a new buckley 'greatest hits', for which the advert featuring cd cover has the name of the song 'hallelujah' on it in bigger and bolder letters than the guys name(!!!), i think it is an atrocity that jeff buckley is now being used as a money making machine. especially with songs such as lover you should've come over, mojo pin, so real, what will you say? (i could go on and on...) being a million times better songs than hallelujah!!! although, with the unique and abundant talent the guy had, you could say it had to happen one day!

hunners of conflicting arguments!

please discuss!
You again, you b*****d!

Dr, I couldn't agree more with you. I was going to post something on it so many times but you've said it so much better. How sickly ironic that he is known to so many people now because of X Factor. I saw on the adverts tonight they've brought out a 'Best Hits of' album now!!! :( :o  :? :!: :<> :@ Watch this space because his father's will follow!

I've never seen X Factor (not sure it's even shown in the US??), is it similar to American Idol (blech, btw)??
Sad as it is, Buckley tends to be fairly obscure here in the US *mainstream* (which really doesn't mean sh*t because there's very little taste there anyway, imAo!!!!). I can easily say Buckley is among my top 5 favorite artists of all time. He left a huge hole in our music world with his death, so much talent just gone. I hate to see his legacy minimized & trivialized thru commercial use (& abuse!! I've mentioned before my complete disdain for commercialism in general  ), & without his say. Such a shame that some people's 1st exposure to him will be acquired thru such a dull, trivial arena.
Btw, I also love 'Lover You Should've Come Over', 'So Real'(heaven!), 'Eternal Life' (jammin'!)...'Hallelujah' is probably my least favorite (from Grace). Of course that's relatively speaking as NOTHING he ever did is actually bad!
(ok, you made me pull out Grace...been a little while since I've listened to him!! His music still makes me quiver...)
