After asking for ideas last week for the first book to discuss, The Kite Runner seems to be the choice. If anyone wants another choice we'll give it another two days and if that is okay with everyone then that's the book for this month. People read at different paces and some are busier than others so how about the end of the month to read it and then we start discussing from November 1st? How does that sound?

Sounds good to me :D

Hopefully as Ags said we will get some new posters (who normally just read what we are all saying on here) contributing.

You know you all want to

If you haven't read The Kite Runner yet, now's your chance so that you can contribute at the end of the month to the forum's reading group. Come on, one and all.

On page 102. Should be finished by Fri/Sat. Maybe earlier, gettting into it. That little narrator prat's got a lot to make up for. Wonder how he does it? Don't tell me. Be in touch soon. V. V. busy at the moment, too busy to write out the word V. in full.

It is a tale of redemption so it will be interesting to find out if you think he achieves this Hugh. :D

Does anyone else's book have the essay type questions in it? I don't want to go first incase someone hasn't read it and yet still come on here anyway. Even though it says spoilers, i think some people might still come on. So I'll wait till it's universally agreed that we're ready.

My book doesn't have any questions - would be good though! Maybe the Ossies need them?

Although we agreed we would wait until the end of the month if EVERYONE is ready, we could begin mid-week this week but I think there are still some out there who haven't finished it yet and we did say end of the month...

What does everyone else think? Still any readers out there?

I am ready and am happy to start discussing mid week. Speak up anyone else who would like us to wait, I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone who has not finished reading the book yet.

My copy from Tesco also has a reading guide and points for discussion.

I am looking forward to the book club officially starting :D

As everyone seems to be ready to start the discussion, why not go ahead.

One of the issues could maybe start with what the book taught you about the country and its history or the way of life that had to be endured to survive. Just a suggestion of course.

I agree. So if no-one disagrees we begin tomorrow night and discuss History's suggestion. Ags, remember the wine! :D

Crisps and dips too?
Haven't had time until today to look my copy out again and have just realised I don't have it back from the last person I lent it to! I will read it again but will just try and join in the discussion from memory. My copy also has the "reading group talking points!

I really don't think anyone who hasn't read the book should be on here anyway. That bit that says spoiler is a big clue.
