BBC ALBA

Have your say....

BBC ALBA

Did anyone catch the new Gaelic channel as it launched last night?

It should be a good addition to the choices on TV - whatever your interest. The aim is to make it attractive to non-Gaelic speakers too - eg Eorpa, the current affairs programme on BBC2 is regularly watched by far more non-Gaelic than fluent speakers. And there will be quite a lot of football - including SPL matches not being shown on BBC1 Scotland. Most of the programmes have subtitles.

And I notice that the chef at Balinakill is featured on a "Slighe gu Biadh" a food programme that this week is focusing on Argyll (Monday at 2030). While only on Sky (channel 168) and Freesat (110) now, it will be on Virgin Media (cable) soon, with Freeview to follow in 2010, it is hoped.

I am not going to argue with you ... but what has your comment got to do with the new Gaelic channel?

Anyone watching this on 168 on Sky? Some really good programmes on it, whether or not you have any Gaelic.

For the pipers among us ... and for the folk who enjoy great music and musicianship, try this:

The Macdonalds of Glenuig have incredible talent, as I am sure you will agree. This hour long programme features them plus some other incredible musicians on the fiddle, box, and sundry other instruments. Also, enjoy the wonderful sining of Kathleen MacInnes.
