The Kite Runner

Have your say....

The Kite Runner

Not read the book, at least not yet, but just watched the film and it is probably one of the best i've seen in a long time. A story of guilt and redemption played out beautifully by realistic characters who run the full gamut of human emotion. Most people say the book is far better, so I hope I can afford to buy it soon.

It's a great read! We read the next one, A Thousand Splendid Suns, for our last Reading Group choice (I can imagine what Ionnsaigh would say about that) and it was more harrowing, I thought. I haven't seen The Kite Runner film yet but am a bit apprehensive to see the opening scene as I thought it was so awful in the book.
Why don't you just pop into Borders every day and read a chapter or two?

They don't really show that scene, mainly because of what might have happened to the young actors. They're in enough trouble as it is.

Kite Runner is the best book I have ever read and like you Govangirl, although I felt compelled to watch the film I was totally apprehensive about seeing it!! My shoulders were aching leaving the cinema I had myself so tensed up about it  It is amazingly well done though and the initial harrowing part is done very well and in such a way that you know what happened without having to watch (hope that makes sense!). You should read the book Horse....and Splendid Suns the authors other book. We did that at book group too and it comes a very close second to Kite Runner. Kite Runner won our book of the year for 2006 and A Thousand Splendid Suns for 2007.

I know I`m a bit late with this, but only just seen the thread. I read A Thousand Splendid Suns earlier this year, and thought it one of the most amazing and moving books I`d ever read. Then, a few weeks ago, I read The Kite Runner, now I can`t decide which of the two books is the best, but on reflection, neither is, they`re both brilliantly written. I`ve still to see the film of The Kite Runner, a pleasure, if that is the right word, still to come. Hats off to the author.

The Kite Runner premiered on Sky Movies last night. I hadn't seen it before, but what a tremendous film. My wife had read the book and thought it one of her best reads and had encouraged me to read it, but I've never got round to it. Is the film accurate to the book? If you've got Sky movies I urge you to watch it.

Thanks GG. From reading the discussion points, it would appear that there are some differences between book and film.

I`ve now got the DVD, but haven`t had the chance to watch it yet, looking forward to it though. Hopefully they`ll make a film of A Thousand Splendid Suns as well.

It's in pre-production I think.

Apologies, it's actually still at the screenplay writing stage.
