Postby dr-sanchez » Mon Jul 14, 2008 11:09 pm

Just downloaded some of his songs today after watching a BBC 4 documentary on his son, Jeff and good god, where have I been! amazing songs. only heard it for the first time today but "Song to the siren" is easily one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have heard in a long time. what does everyone else think? any tim buckley stuff that anyone can recommend me to get a hold of?

He's brilliant! Get a glass of wine and turn his song 'dolphins' up high - absolutely fabulous. I love this song, one of my favourites ever. You will too!!!!!!!
And then when you've had another glass, listen to 'Honeyman' and you'll be up dancing!

Is it not bizarre how they both have almost the same voice and mannerisms and both died so young? Tim had released a scatter of albums right enough but I dont know if any of them were as good as Grace

I have to agree that 'Grace' is a cracking album and it has the best cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' that I've heard BUT in my opinion Dad was the better of the two.

First heard of Tim Buckley when heard a version of "Song to the Siren" by This Mortal Coil with that great singer from Grangemouth Elizabeth Frazer on vocals - still my favourite version of the song.

Interestingly Liz was to have an affair with Jeff, Tims son, many years later after meeting at a Tim Buckley appreciation gig. Recorded one song together which I think is gorgeous

Also worth a read is "Dream Brother - lives and music of Jeff and Tim Buckley"

I read an extract of that book online somewhere, it had the Foti chap's recollection of the night Jeff died in it. Very bizarre.

You surprise me with that Face. I thought Foti was one of those who verified that there was no mystery or 'bizarre' story surrounding his death. He had taken no alcohol nor drugs and agreed it was an accidental drowning. Am I missing something?

No, I just mean in the way he was acting. The extract said that he was different somehow. It just seems weird to me that someone would act differently to how they had for the past few months on the particular night they died. It said that he was more at peace, more accepting. I mean, did he have an inkling? Did he know? That sort of thing both intrigues and terrifies me, but I'm aware that I might be reading too much into words that haven't been written yet (That's mine, no one steal it). Also, why would you go swimming anywhere with big boots on?

Was bored and reading through the posts and noticed this that I'd missed. If I remember right, Horse, he found out that day that he was Bipolar and it had a very positive impact on him. He realised he had a reason for his behaviour and I guess it would make him act in this way.
