Duffy-Rockferry

Have your say....

Duffy-Rockferry

Bought this album last week full of expectation due to the rave reviews. I certainly wasn't disappointed. She has been hailed as the new Dusty Springfield and as a big fan of the late Dusty's work I was only too willing to have a listen. She certainly sounds great although she hasn't quite got the same range as Dusty. The general sound of the album is very soulfull and the collaboration with Bernard Butler gives it that Spector 'wall of sound' feel. There are also some fabulous backing vocals by the amazing David McAlmont. If you're a fan of northern soul and Dusty, you will love this album. :D

i liked all the butler/mcalmontt collaberations (even if he has a weird shaped head) might be worth a listen, you know how much i love my northern soul, and i will admit to having at least one dusty cd, well quite a lot of dusty cd's, due to lack of play, but at least one by dusty

Seen her a few times on Later and admit she has been superb. The songs on the album written together with Bernard Butler are for def the best on the album.

These links are to Later, first is Rockferry and 2nd is 1st cut is the deepest

the face doesn't go with the voice, but she has an original voice, even if it does sound like she comes from 60's philly or the motor city, without the joss stone pretensions and delusions of granduer. theres a good chance she could never sell here but ship millions in the US. first singer thats enticed me to go out and buy a "new" CD since Mo' Solid Gold, and i didn't even buy that one, got it as a freebie from their record company. if you've never heard them have a listen, they split up several years ago but would grace any CD collection, Duffy's voice is GGGRRRR, can't think of a word.
