40TH. ANNIVERSARY

Postby bill » Mon Jan 14, 2008 3:49 pm

13TH. JANUARY 1968.......................

It is 40 years since "The Man in Black" walked through the gates of Folsom prison, to give a concert for the inmates.
The show was recorded and released as an album, which has gone on to be recognised as one of the all time great live albums.

Johnny Cash live at Folsom

I SHOT A MAN IN RENO......JUST TO WATCH HIM DIE. 8)
I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

Does anyone else think that the original Hurt is much better than Johnny Cash's?
Not that I don't like his version, I just think the original is better.

Here's the legendary Christy Moore doing his take on Hurt.

I am a big fan of Christy's,been to see him a few times, but no way does his version compare to J.C.'s

Here's Christy doing Shane McGowan's classic composition Aisling.

christy moore is just a man singing a song, johnny cash's version stops you in your tracks and you can hear the emphasis in every single word and phrase, you can actually feel cash's hurt as he sings it.

aye i know, complete p!sh, i just prefer cash's voice singing it, usually i would favour the writer, with the exceptions of dylan and willie nelson, everybody sings their songs better, now i can add moore, tho i do like his voice, its as good as its always been

Can't ever mistake the dulcet tones of the Right Reverend Dwayne Love (From Possil, Glasgow). Brilliant!
