saw this the other night after reading a lot about it. Sean Penn is a really good director, and i really enjoyed this film.

I can totally understand the motivations of alexander supertramp (as he called himself) but am not convinced id take it just as far as he did. Emile Hirschs performance is deservedly getting recognition but if hal holbrook is not up for best supporting actor then there is something severely wrong at the academy.

And the music by that nice mr vedder is superb too.

Sean Penn is one of my favorites. Will definitely look for it.

Horse, I saw the movie today and probably would have missed it totally if it wasn't for your post. I cried half way home. William Hurt did a great job also.

i only heard about it cos eddie vedder did the soundtrack. I dont know how well promoted it was, because i usually read about these things in magazines, and spent most of the last three months in a one horse town
(yes, i was that horse, before any of the "comedians' try to steal that one), with one shop that didnt sell empire and had limited internet access.

Anyway, im glad you enjoyed it, unless you were crying because you didnt like it.

Watched this last night, found it a bit long at 142mins.The film itself was well acted, and the cinematography was excellent.

Dont watch There Will Be Blood or The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. Both are extremely long and quite slowpaced as well.

I really liked The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford. It was a little slowpaced and sometimes a little confusing, but I didn't think it was too long, and in the end thought it was worth it.

The only person I know - who didn't enjoy the Assassination of Jesse James - was poor auld Jesse. Looking forward to seeing my boyhood hero.
