Some people die at 21 but aren't buried until they are 65.

That is not good to see but I suppose he made his career out of that sort of behaviour.....I used to think he was maybe putting it on a bit but not now.

I can remember what I was doing the first time I heard Thousands Are Sailing....magic stuff.

Can't get my head round Shane Macgowan being hailed as a genius. Would a genius have pissed his life away like he has?
OOH did they knock down McCaigs folly.....

But many betters!
He was a great frontman in his prime and the early 80s gigs were legendary but the Pogues forte was their arrangements of traditional tunes though Jem Finer and Shane did write some crackers too.

George Best? Jim Baxter?

However, would probably agree with you questioning him being labelled a 'genius'. No doubt there'll soon be a Channel 4 show called "The 100 Greatest Songwriters" - I wouldn't be expecting too many mentions for Mr Macgowan

Bill - I remember going to see them in Glasgow in circa '88-'89 (Fall From Grace With God Tour) he slipped on his @rse on stage, pint in hand, and hardly spilled a drop, what a cheer he got. 8) He wasn't as mangled then as he is now.

In his heyday he was a brilliant energetic frontman, unfortunately he's a pale shadow of that now, as well as being medical miracle :? He must be one of the shortest odds on the "Who's going to die in 2008?" betting-lists. :(

Hellraising rocker Shane McGowan is unfairly labelled a shambling drunk, according to his bandmate Terry Woods.
Shane was recently accused of taking his love of alcohol too far at a concert in Chicago, Illinois, when he took to the stage late and appeared under the influence throughout his act.
Woods insists the 50-year-old was really ill:"He gets landed with an awful lot of s**t that isn't either fair or true, and that was one of them. "He'd eaten something that didn't agree with him, and it was as simple as that.
He wasn't drunk. Definitely not."

I believe him

Old Shane was in New York for St Patrick's Day this year and he played it sober! Not that you could say the same for the audience!
