Pete Seeger .
Thanks for the music, powerful lyrics and words of wisdom.
There'll be some reunion going on when he meets up with Woody.

Back in 1970 when Johnny Cash was at the summit he fought to get Pete Seeger on his tv show. This clip was taken from a 1972 documentary, and shows Cash and Seeger preparing for the show..

I know my Summer'll never come
I know I'll cry until my dying day has come
Let the Winter roll along
I've got nothing left but song

Didn't notice your post earlier Martin. Good one, a true radical hero gone.

Oh yes, a lovely image!!!!
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

Martin you do know that Seeger wrote the first three verses of "Where have all the flowers gone".The last two verses are credited to Joe Hickerson.

Was never too keen on Seeger, though way back in the 70's I used to have a cassette of Woody Guthrie which was played continuelessly.Woody's son Arlo is also someone I have listened to over the years.

Here he is with Seeger, from the same concert that you posted, singing his Dad's song "This land is your land". The words of this song were never set in stone, as Woody would change then to whatever suited. As far as I know it was not originally called "This land is your land".

Yes Bill, I did know that.
I like Arlo and his humour, there is a nice version of him paying tribute to his old man when Woody was being turned into a postage stamp.

Unfortunately you'll have to go to Youtube as embedding is disabled for this vid.

There's also a recording out there of Arlo playing Alice's Restaurant to a new generation and explaining about the draft etc. In that version he tells a very funny story about the song, Nixon and Watergate.

"Folklorist Alan Lomax said that folk music was born on 3 March 1940. This was the date Seeger met Woody Guthrie, and together they continued their cross-country journey."
