A Horse called Juan Face wrote:saw this in the paper today and once again it highlights the lack of imagination in mainstream music and those who listen to it.
Richey James Edwards - Manic St Preachers (best british lyricist in last 25 years, manics went downhill ever since he disappeared)
Billy Corgan - Smashing Pumpkins
but they wont get any rewards cos they are underground artists
(layne staley is 6ft underground)
and there are many more
Juan, which paper was this in - would be interested to see the list.
Would hardly call most of the acts undergrounds as they are all nearly multi million sellers.
Was lucky enough to see the Manics three times when Richey was still amongst us. Twice in Glasgow and his last ever show at the Astoria in London when he destroyed everything on the stage. None of your wimpy wee smash guitars on stage, he destroyed everything - guitars, drums, amps, backdrop, nothing was safe- think it was nealt 40,000 pounds worth of damage. True he was a great lyricist but probably too dark for a lot of people. Have you ever seen the NME interview of him and the Manics in Bangkok - totally nuts, is like reading something out of Heart of Darkness.
Re Corgan, loved the Pumpkins but have to say he does come across as walking about with his head up his jacksie. Sooner he gets the Pumpkins back together the better as his last album was pretty poor.
If, after all, men cannot always make history have meaning, they can always act so that their own lives have one.
