A sad day indeed, but he had a good innings. I always looked forward to Max`s shows on TV, and loved the repartee between him and the band leader Geoff Love. But my main memories are of listening to him on the radio, long before we had a television. R.I.P Max.

He was two months older than my mum, she had met him and worshipped him, not sure if it was something to do with the R.A.F. or the showbiz crowd she knocked around with for a while.
Until yesterday I hadn't heard Back In My Childhood Days for years and I suddenly realised why mum loved it so much.

Ok,I'll say something.

I do not think he was a very pleasant guy. When I heard that he had refused to carry on doing the Christmas morning show from a children's hospital ward unless he was paid,I thought it said all we needed to know.He had it all,but it was not enough.

Like Terry Wogan getting paid to do the Children in Need appeal.People with a lot less than he, out doing good raising money for the charity, while he was back in the studio getting paid.In later years he has given his fee to Children in Need, but only after he was outed.

Fair enough Bill, fair comment if that's what you reckon. I will say this however, I cannot stand Children In Need, it's an excuse for folk with too much money to indulge themselves in public.
That's me done, this thread was only meant as an R.I.P. post. Ho-Hum.
