Well said Stone Cold.
I'm sure the lads have heard it all before from the doubters and the people who laughed them off as no hopers.
As they have said '' these people will never achieve what we have managed .''
I'm sure they have included an answer to people like A H. C. J. F. on their album credits.
Cheers

can i have my hook back

quantity of sales does not mean quality

i thought that was obvious by the success of westlife

Westlife have never sold that many in one day, and besides it's not just wee lassies buying the cds - I thought that would be obvious.

i am a rocking horse

i like anything thats guitar-based but has a vague assosciation with mr tune.

Myrtle stop basing quality on success

success these days is generally caused by some extenuating factor rather than the actual music. In Arctic Monkeys case its because they are the first band to take advantage of downloads since it became legal.
The media have latched onto them and they have become media darlings forcing the big brother fans and sun readers of the world, many of whom cannot formulate their own opinion, to buy this album.

It doesnt matter who bought the album
They may have sold X amount on Monday, but how many copies were sold to second hand shops on tuesday or wednesday

If the band can transcend this current scene and stay popular then fair play to them, but i personally think they are crap.

Before people start to attack me I am not saying everyone who bought this album or watches reality tv or reads the sun is a sheep, but i do believe that all sheep bought this album, solely because it is flavour of the month.

I am not a sheep I am a horse

ps the band are also now using the 'its uncool to do top of the pops' gimmick. hmm the papers wont report on that one if u dont want to do top of the pops dont do it, dont garner publicity by saying ur not going to do it

Dear Juan Face ( A Horse called ) .
Are you a Clydesdale ? Or just any other bread of horse .
You'll need to be big to stand up to the great people on here.

As I said on the '....album.....' thread earlier this week they will not go on 'Top Of The Pops' they haven't just started that idea to gain publisity, it's always been their way .
''Whatever People Say I Am , That's What I'm Not '' is out selling former ' Verve' singer Richard Ashcroft by four to one.
They have beaten 'The Beatles' in a list of great British albums of all time.
Selling about 150,000 each day ,these last few days , with The Guardian and The Times both giving them pages of press coverage.
The Smiths debut album , Oasis with Definitely Maybe and now The Arctic Monkeys.
Cheers

Frosty, no matter how great they are, seems to me we should hold off on this "in a list of great British albums of all time." Not making a judgment on them, I liked what I heard, but they were established in 2002. Lets see where they stand when they stand the test of time.

Humbly opining...

Whatever People Say I Am , That's What I'm Not came fifth in the NME pole while The Beatles Revolver album only made ninth place.
I was stating a fact to highlight how well the album sales and reviews had went compared to previous big bands and first albums.

Time will tell , but for a first album and two single releases I don't think anyone can say it is only because of modern technology that these guys have made it.
