Peter Quaife was co-founder and bassist with The Kinks until his departure in 1969,caused by the continuous fighting between Ray and Dave, and Dave and Mick.He had had enough and left.

He sadly passed away at his home in Canada two days ago aged 66.

I see Ray Davies paid tribute to Pete during his set at Glastonbury today, saying "I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for him."

Thanks for the information Bassett,I didn't realise Ray was at Glastonbury.Caught his set on BBC I-Player.

Thought he was going to completely lose it at the start of "Thank you for the Days" as shown below.Must have been a lot of early memories from the glory days of the 60's running around in his head.

IMHO Ray is not only on a par with the likes of Lennon/McCartney,Jagger/Richards etc. but way and above all of them when it comes to songwriting.

I missed this thread, although I did hear about Pete at the time.

I do agree with everything Bill said about Ray Davies. He is a true living legend and he should be SIR Ray Davies for sure. A genius.

Just watched Ray on BBC 4 from Glastonbury. Fantastic song-writer and performer who can keep an audience. Does anyone know who the guitarist was with the red Gretsch ? Thought he was amazing too!

Neilly and 4th gen. do you know Ray is working on a collaborations album of Kinks songs with Bon Jovi , Lucinda Williams, Alex Chilton, Metallica, Spoon, Amy Macdonald ,Bruce Springsteen and others. The tracks I am particularly looking forward to are the ones with Mumford and Son, 8) they are getting the honour of doing two tracks while the others do one.
