Glad you can see why we love Jack Reacher GG
"Fallen" by Karin Slaughter is definitely one of her best, I loved it Bill. It took me a wee bit to get all the different characters sorted out in my head but I really enjoyed it.
We also read "We need to talk about Kevin" for our book group many moons ago and we all loved it. I found it really hard going to begin with but once about a quarter of the way in I really enjoyed it. I still remember quite clearly my shock at the end of the book. I haven't seen the film yet but it's on the "to do" list for over the next couple of months.
According to my kindle I am 81% through Me Before You by Jojo Moyes but I won't comment until I am 100% there, definitely more a book for the ladies though,

I am definitely going to try 'My dear I wanted to tell you' now. And yes, I found the Kevin book the same, so difficult to get into but what a cracker when you do! Really shocking and the end is breathtaking! I haven't seen the film yet but don't know if I can cope with the scenes - starting with the 'eye' episode!!!!

Port Mortuary was an improvement on Patricia Cornwell of late, but still not up to what she used to be. Maybe Kay Scarpetta should retire?
At the moment I`m reading a rather odd book, Switched, by Amanda Hocking. After a childhood hated by her mother, who also tried to kill her at the age of 6, she finds out when she`s 17 that she`s really a changeling, and a troll, and is taken back to live with her own kind. I`m now waiting for the tale to unwind. Not my usual sort of read.

Karin Slaughter's "Fallen" certainly did not disappoint.Like you say Ags,once you got who all the characters were it was a great read.Certainly passed the time on the flight.

The best I read while lounging in the sun has to be "The burying place by Brian Freeman. A story of murder and kidnapping in the barren Northlands of Minnesota.

That`s another that I enjoyed Bill. I`ve just come across an author called Katia Lief, first I read Hide and Seek, now I`m reading Five Days to Die, which is equally as good. Must watch out for more of her books.

Have you been soaking up some winter sun Bill you lucky thing?!!
I finished "Me before you" by Jojo Moyes a few days ago and absolutely loved it.
It made me smile, laugh and sob!! Lou Clark plods through life until she is made redundant from her job in a local cafe. She goes to work for Will Traynor, a guy who lived life to the full but after a freak accident is left a quadraplegic. The author handles Wills condition and disability rights really sensitively. Bridget Jones with a difference was my first thought!
A great book which i would definitely recommend and get the kleenex at the ready!
I am now onto 11th Hour by James Patterson for a wee bit of "comfort crime". Hopefully he is still on the boil for the latest Lindsay Boxer adventure.
I am also extremely chuffed with myself for sorting my kindle books into folders last night.....I'm all nicely organised now

"Staying on past the terminus" by Robert Douglas is a return to 18 Dalbeattie Street Maryhill.It is now 1961,and most of the close inhabitants are still there.Once again the reader is treated to a slice of Glasgow life ,which includes love,death and humour.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Soul murder" a debut novel from Daniel Blake is a terrific murder thriller.Pittsburgh homicide detectives Franco Patrese, and his partner Mark Beradino have a serial killer to hunt down.All the while they have their own problems to deal with,until one of them realises that his problems are actually connected to the murders.A paedophile priest,a mother accused of killing her three babies and a lesbian prison guard are all part of the mix.

I`m reading Snapshot, by Craig Robertson. Set in Glasgow, someone is killing off major local criminals and crime bosses, a photographer who photographs crme scenes for the police gets involved as well, thinking that he may know what`s going on. Lots of blood and gore around.

I've gone back loads of pages and can't find any reference to these books but someone has recommended that I read books by Craig Russell about Glasgow crime in the 50s. The first book is called Lennox and there is another after that. Has anyone read these and are they any good?

Sorry GG, can`t help you there. I`ve just read My Dear, I Wanted To Tell You, by Louisa Young. An extremely good book, but very harrowing descriptions of life, and death, in the WW1 trenches. I`m now reading Sister, by Rosamund Lupton, haven`t got very far yet, but it`s a bit slow getting going.

Oh I thought it was you Numberplease, I'm sure I've heard of him before on here. I must read that My Dear, I Wanted To Tell You after Ags recommended it. I've just finished reading - again- We Need to Talk about Kevin for my bookclub and it just confirmed what a powerful book it is.

I've just finished "Lennox" by Craig Russell and recommend it highly. It's a good, fast-paced crime thriller set in Glasgow shortly after the Second World War with a Canadian private eye for the hero and a big cast of gangland hard men (and a couple of quite nasty women). Lots of wry humour. The author is new to me but I see he has some 'previous' so I think I'll hunt them down. If they're as good as "Lennox" it should be worth the effort!

I got the latest in Craig Russell's Lennox series when I was up the road the weekend before last. "The Long Glasgow Kiss" picks up where the first book left off, following private eye Lennox's progress through a Glasgow underworld dominated by the 'Three Kings', the big three of the city's criminal fraternity. This time the story is based around bookies, boxing and Glasgow's role as a staging post in the international trade in heroin. It cracks along at a fair pace and is full of the tongue in cheek humour that made the first book so enjoyable. Another 'highly recommended'.
