Forgot to say Dunc99 there was a really interesting interview with Peter May in last Saturday's Herald magazine. I probably would have skipped over if you hadn't mentioned him on here. Sorry for the late post, this would have been much more helpful a week ago  but you may manage to find it online.

Finished the latest from J.A.Kerley,called "Her last scream".It is the latest in the Carson Ryder and Harry Nautilus of the Alabama P.D. series.
Always look for any by this author as you always get an enjoyable, and believable story.
"Across the US, a secret network of crisis centres permanently relocates women in serious danger from domestic abuse. But now someone is killing them before they reach their destinations."

That`s the only one of that series that I`ve read Bill, I`m on the lookout for more. At the moment I`m reading Call the Midwife, it`s bringing back a lot of memories for me!

James Patterson's latest in the Alex Cross series, "Kill Alex Cross",is quite enjoyable. Why it has that title though is a mystery in itself, as it's not about some one trying to kill him.Though I did mention in a previous post that maybe it was time to kill him off.
The story line involves the kidnapping of The President's two children, and also a terrorist group with a death list of high ranking politicians.

I haven`t spotted that one yet Bill. Have you read any of the Jefferson Bass body farm books? I quite like them. At the moment I`m reading The Bone Yard, and enjoying it a lot.

Just this minute finished "My dear I wanted to tell you" by Louisa Young. WOW!!
Firstly don't be put off by the "girlie" cover. The book is set between Paris and London in WW1 and concentrates on how war affects those left behind as well as those who fight.
The book has 5 main characters who each grip you from the start. It is moving, poignant and quite graphic at times in some of the trench and hospital scenes but this book, loosely based on fact, is brilliantly written.
I cried, but in the middle, not at the end.
I would NEVER have picked this book up, firstly because of it's cover and secondly because it is war based so I am really grateful that it was recommended to me by a friend - loved it :D .

Ags I`m still looking for that one. I`ve just finished reading Next to Love, by Ellen Feldman, it`s in a similar vein, but set during and after WW2, up to the mid 50s. Not my usual sort of read, but I enjoyed it, nevertheless. Am now back in my thriller mode, having just finished today The Bone Yard, by Jefferson Bass, loved it, and am now reading Already Gone, by John Rector, it`s an okay sort of read, but it`s not totally grabbed me, it`s panning out a bit like a B movie, but I`ll finish it, I don`t like giving up on a book.

Killing Hour from Andrew Gross is a thriller I found a bit slow to get going.Glad I stuck with it though.

Ditto on Killing Hour Bill. I`ve just finished The Nosferatu Scroll, by James Becker, a modern story which delves into the past, and vampire legends, set in Venice, I really quite enjoyed it. Next on my pile is Port Mortuary, by Patricia Cornwell. She`s gone of the boil a bit in the last couple of books, but hoping for an improvement in this one.

Perfect Grave from Rick Mofina is an excellent read. When a nun is murdered in Seattle it is the beginning of a police investigation that will lead to some startling discoveries.Seattle Mirror crime reporter Jason Wade finds his alcoholic ex policeman father is linked to the killer through a previous killing from the past.

Well, Numberplease, I have finished the first Jack Reacher book and it was a cracking read! I really enjoyed being shocked at all the different surprises and twists. I'd certainly want Mr Reacher to help me out if I was in trouble!!
I then excitedly got the second one, Die Trying, but it's much slower and not as much of a page-turner for me. I'm more than halfway through it but I'm disappointed at how unsatisfying it is.

Govangirl, I remember that I found one of the Jack Reacher books a little less satisfyinng than the others, but can`t for the life of me remember which one it was. I`ve just ordered War Horse from Amazon, if I like it I`ll go for the sequel, Farm Boy. I was surprised to find it classed as a childrens book.

Not only a children's book NP,but first published in UK in 1982.

Karin Slaughter's latest, "Fallen", has started off at a terrific pace.Looks like it could be her best to date. Will let you know.

Yes, Numberplease, and for younger children too. I think because of the success of this book, they will go on to another of his favourites, Private Peaceful.
And I'm glad you said that about the Reacher book. I'll try the next one now but I'm glad I didn't read this one first. I am also currently re-reading We Need to Talk About Kevin for my book club, a really shocking but un-put-down-able book.

Bill, I LOVED Fallen, but I`ve loved every Karin Slaughter book that I`ve read. And what an apt name for a writer of thrillers!
GG, good luck with your exploration of Jack Reacher.
Port Mortuary looks as if it will be an improvement on Patricia Cornwell of late.
