What are you reading just now?

Have your say....

Ags, I`ve often wondered how he manages the co-written books as well as his usual ones, most of the ones I`ve read have been enjoyable, this one was Oka-a-ay, but just not up to the usual standard. I`m really not enjoying the Val McDermid book that I`m reading, but I`m determined to finish it.

I went to spend my vouchers last night at Asda, and bought 7 books. That was one of the ones I looked at Bill, but couldn`t make my mind up, so didn`t buy it. I`m sure I`ve read another of hers, but can`t quite remember which.

What Heaven! Hope you also got a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates! Asda do a great wee range of bottles for one! :D

I have finished Obama's 'Dreams from my Father' and it was so fabulous I went out and got his second book and finished it this morning. My Reading Group is not until the 22nd and I just cannot wait to see what the others think. It took me longer to read it simply because there was so much to think about and reflect on and GREET about every few pages. I've never read a book written by a politician before and I doubt there are any who could write as beautifully as him. However, it would be great to read of their thoughts and their hopes before they reach their destiny. The thing is, forget he even became President - the book itself is wonderful. It is an honest account of someone searching for identity and real meaning of life. I really was blown away by it.

I wish he were my leader!
Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

Alex Barclay sounds familiar Bill but I can't find anything on my shelves.....maybe I've just seen it somewhere!
One of my friends has just finished "Dreams from my Father" and echoed your sentiments GG - she has ordered his second book after enjoying the first so much and has promised to pass dreams on to me this week.
How do you pick your titles for your book group? Do you take it in turns like us?
We haven't had a book group "meeting" since our city break in November and we still have one book to discuss before our "oscars" awards night and the start of the 2009 titles!
What books did you buy numberplease?

Just finished Pitch Black by Alex Gray(yes another Alex and another wumman)probably the main reason this book is keich.

The blurb on the back cover states,"Featuring the most dynamic new Scottish detective since Rebus,Pitch Black is a page turning thriller steeped in in the history and atmosphere of Glasgow".

NAW ITS NAW!

Will stick to my usual American police thrillers in future.

Blatant sexism on the Kintyre Forum's Reading Thread - someone should inform the Daily Mail.

Various ways, Ags. Sometimes, we put our ideas into a hat and other months we make a shortlist and vote. Obama was the result of trying to pick something non-fiction and our only male suggested him (probably the main reason the book wasn't keich - sarcasm! ).

I'll be stealing that - what a great idea! :D

There are 7 of us in our "exclusive" club and whoever picks the book - we take it in turns - hosts the evening! Last year we also had a "wildcard" where we all put a book in the hat! Think we may have to do that this year too to keep us going. We then go out for a meal and have a wee prize giving at the end of each "year"!! Any excuse

Hi Ags, I got
Split Second..........Alex Kava
The Front............Patricia Cornwell
The Guilty........Jason Pinter
The Murder Exchange...............Simon Kernick
7th Heaven...........James Patterson
Whistleblower..............Tess Gerritsen
Hold Tight.............Harlan Coben

They should keep me going for a little while, and I`ve still got £15 worth of Asda vouchers and a £5 Waterstones voucher left! :D I`ve nearly finished Star Struck, it improved a bit, but still not over impressed .

Just finished, and very enjoyable it was too.As you said previously "numberplease", his stand alone books are better than the Myron Bolitar series.
I have another one of his I am going to start now,(don't think I have read it) which is a Myron Bolitar called Promise Me.

Great choices numberplease - you won't know where to start! As I've said before I love Harlan Coben and Tess Gerritsen! I have also read and enjoyed a few Alex Kava books though not recently.
One of my friends dropped off The Murder Exchange by Simon Kernick last night - she hasn't even read it yet so feel obliged to get cracking with that this weekend! :) Obama will need to take second place in the huge queue of what to read next.... :D

I`m ashamed to admit that I gave up on Zodiac, it wasn`t as interesting as I thought it was going to be. It was a journalist`s own documentation of the happenings during the killing spree of a serial killer who named himself Zodiac, in America between 1968 and the 80s, but it was a bit too ponderous for my liking. I don`t usually give up on a book, but this time.........

Bill - guess what I found today when I was looking for something else..... an Alex Barclay book in my bookcase but it's "The Caller". I have obviously started it and given up.......I can guess it must have been really rubbish when I couldn't even remember having it!
Iain read an Alex Gray book recently called "Shadow of Sounds" set in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall - he said it was ok but not a patch on Quentin Jardines "Head Shot" which also claims to be a rival to Rebus and which he read around the same time!

Just a coincidence do you think that they are both by females called Alex?I pick up a book, see that it is by someone called Alex, and right away I think it is a guy as ALEX surely is short for Alexander.Or is that just me that thinks that Lynda La Plant is a one off in the male dominated world of crime writers ? :@ :@
