What are you reading just now?

Have your say....

Yes, I've read quite a few of their recommendations and thoroughly enjoyed them. One of my best last year was The Testament of Gideon Mack. It wasn't a fantastic story but it kept me enthralled to the last page. It's the story of a Church of Scotland minister who meetsthe devil! I loved all the bits about the Presbytarian Church and especially enjoyed the episode of his father when England won the World Cup in 1966. It's definitely worth a read and I really enjoyed it.

The last book I read was also a Richard and Judy book, The Outcast, by Sadie Jones, but I`m afraid that, even though I finished it, I didn`t enjoy it at all, I found it rather sordid, if that`s the word I`m looking for, not really sure how to describe my feelings about it. I`ve just started the first of 2 books by Lisa Gardner that only cost me £1 each at Asda. This one`s called The Third Victim, and it`s a promising start.

Oh I couldn't agree more numberplease! I had high hopes for this but the characters were flimsy and I had no empathy for the main character. I struggled to get to the end, I recall because the writing was so bad!

Have just read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and really enjoyed it.

The last few words...

"Of course this all happened a long time ago and nothing like that could ever happen again. Not in this day and age."

Has really got me thinking, if only it were true that nothing like that could ever happen again. In this day and age the lessons have still not been learned and similar things still happen to children. :( :( :(

(Sorry to talk in riddles - don't want to spoil the book for anyone.)

I read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas a few months ago. Great book, meant, I think, for children, but suitable for adults as well. A very sad book.

Has anybody seen the film? I couldn't bring myself to go and watch it!

Have not seen it yet, I always try and read the book before I watch the film. Only problem with that is I become very critical of the film, especially when it moves away from the plot of the book or characters do not look like I envisaged they would

I haven't read the book, but my God, I couldn't look at anyone leaving the picture house. I was greeting and snottering everywhere. Dramatic and very though provoking-not a sound from anyone as they were leaving.

Somewhere to lay My Head by Robert Douglas ----- being the follow up to
Night Song of the Last Tram. Great books about his experiences growing up in the Glasgow tenements and his exploits afterwards-hilarious in parts and sad at other times--a very talented writer.

One of the best books I ever read, in terms of sheer easy reading, was 'The Five People you meet in Heaven' by Mitch Albom. Has anyone else read it? I've just finished reading it for the fourth time and been just as moved as the first time I read it. It's fabulous!

We are reading Barack Obama's 'Dreams from My Father' for our reading group this month. I'm not that into memoirs but looking forward to this one.

Just finished another Nelson DeMille story with John Corey as the main character, this one was Night Fall.Very enjoyable,as all his books have been.

Previous to that I read John Grisham's latest, The Appeal .This latest offering is a lot better than anything he has done in the last 3 years or so.To make it even better, the good guys don't win.

Next one up will be a Harlan Coben,Fade Away.
