Postby Govangirl » Sun May 25, 2008 3:15 pm

What a great race today! I really thought Hamilton had blown it after his mistake but in the end he set a blistering pace and desrved to win. Great stuff! :D

ach, I though this was about the Accies promotion to the SPL
Should Scotland be an Independent country?

Yes, I believe Scotland is a country and should therefore govern itself.
No, Scotland is not a country it is simply part of the UK and should therefore be governed from London.

Sorry for hijacking the thread - I didn't see the Grand Prix.

I was referring to Hamilton Accies winning the Scottish 1st Division and joining the SPL next season.

Anyway, over to the GP fans....

I watched the first half of the race before heading up the road yesterday. I think he's won over a new fan, excellent recovery from his 'bump', though he did get lucky with the safety car at the time it did come out. Top race though - can't wait for the next one, but Monte Carlo is always the best.

Have to disagree with you,Monte Carlo is normally not a race but a procession. It is only when the weather intervenes that it becomes a race.

Do'nt see how he "got lucky with the safety car",when the safety car was deployed Hamilton was approx.39 secs. in the lead

Were you even watching the same race? He was in 4th place when the first safety car was put out after the Coulthard pile up, which occured about 2 laps after he had to pit because he hit the barrier.

I really didn't think luck came into it with Hamilton. He was only in fourth place because after a fabulous start, he caught his back tyre and had to pit, as you say. But after Coulthard's prang and the safety car came out it was obvious Hamilton would have made his way up to the top again. Massa still had to refuel, surrendering his lead, and boy, did you see him go after that? He was like a bat out of Hell and at this point was 3.6sec quicker than the others over the whole circuit. (Bill, I think you meant the second time the safety car was deployed)

You clip the barrier, you hobble back to the pit with a burst tyre, you need to keep control in the wet under enormous pressure and yet you STILL win the hardest race of the season and at 23 emulate your hero, Senna.

So luck? No way. Don't take away the sheer talent of this man!

Oh and also, here's to my hero, Jackie Stewart, who did it in '66!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

What a non-win! I only managed to catch the race late last night and what a disappointment! Can't even see a red light!!!!! Still, the Scot at last on the podium - can't recall the last time he was up there but it seems like years??????

I thought Lewis Hamilton was English? When I looked him up on Wikipedia (I know, not the most reliable source) it says that he is English (that one of his parents are English and the other from someother country). I was also shot down by my English friend when I mentioned to him that he was Scottish. Is there something I am missing?

I'm not sure where the confusion came from but it may have been from my earlier post on June 9th when I said it was great to see a Scot on the podium but I meant Coulthard who at last that weekend was in the running. Sorry!
