NFL and Campbeltown

Postby Wee Toon Ajax » Sat Oct 20, 2007 2:17 am

Well thought I would just bring this up as had to listen to a guy at my work (Reebok) try to sort out some of the sponsorship for the forthcoming NFL match at Wembley between NY Giants and Miami Dolphins.

Gave him a bit of a shock when I pointed out that the kicker for the NY Giants started his career playing real fitba for the mighty Longrow FC in the wee toon under the management of Willie P.

Lawrence Tynes who is the kicker for the NY Giants used to live in the toon as his dad was working for the US Military. Him and his brother both played for Longrow - I am sure there will be a few on the forum who remember them.

From Longrow all the way to the NY Giants - shame his career has gone downhill so dramatically, must wonder where it all went wrong :D

Nice article in the Herald about him

He plays football for 1.3 seconds per game, where better to have learned your trade than the mighty Longrow

They probably had to do alot of work to improve his concentration levels

Is he in any photos of him in Down Memory Lane?

I remember reading an article about him last year and trying to get in touch with him to see if he would do an article for the website but never heard anything.

Was a very very good footballer.

Here is in the photo below with Walter Smith (he was learing his trait from WP then 8) ) . He is in the first row - second from the right. His two borthers are also in the photo - along with a few noteabe faces! Anyone name the team? 8)

Longrow was the greatest boys football team ever to emerge from the toon

Aha, obviously the memories are too hard to live with? I can remember a certain Young Sheik being part of the mighty Calton Thistle who fell victim to Longrow's first ever cup winning side in 1981. 8) A 2-0 win for Longrow in the Sportif Shield saw a major upset - especially from the team who were beaten 11-0 etc the previous year. 8)

Can always remember ayoung blonde haired boy from Hillside asking me for a square go after the game cause we beat them! 8)
