According to the report I read Murray did not say he would not bow, he said "I do not want to be bowing and the person I am playing walk straight past. You will need an agreement before you go on". Although I still hink he is an arrogant b******d.
GG wouldnt bow because she is a girlie, she should curtsey. But I am sure HM wouldnt give a toss if she forgot.

I forgot about that Gizmo but I think bowing or curtseying has to be the choice of individuals without the meeja passing sentence. I don't want the monarchy, I was never asked if I wanted to be a subject, I don't believe anyone has a right to rule a nation simply by accident of birth and really, I'd just love to know what they actually do. This is the 21st century and if Andy Murray doesn't wish to act like a feudal serf then good for him!

Again, Mr Murray never said he would not acknowledge the queen. He said he did not want to bow as his opponent meanderred past, which I think would just draw attention to his opponents ignorance. I personally dont see a wee nod of the head in her general direction as that big a deal certainly not accepting his position as a serf.

Little touches like standing up when the headmaster comes into the classroom, giving up your seat for an older person, holding the door open for a woman or smiling at a child in the street were once regarded as manners. Now of course they mark you out as subjucated, ageist, sexist or a pervert. How things have changed. I blame the teachers.

They work for a living to earn that respect.

These, are you say, are manners and totally different from supporting the monarchy although I think you are so right in the second half.

Respect is earned through actions etc, not just because of the position held

Judging by the interview Murray gave after today's match it is yet another statement blown comletely out of proportion by the press or did I miss something?

"ANDY MURRAY bowed to pressure and paid his respects to the Queen yesterday"

"Both players bowed again before walking off court and Murray later met the Queen, for a short chat."

"Buckingham Palace had insisted the Queen would not be offended if players chose not to acknowledge her."

Once again certain people are only too keen to jump on the anti royalist bandwagon and make trouble where there is none.

1. Oh I'd be quite happy to acknowledge her. She can pop in anytime for a cup of tea and bit of shortbread. I just won't be bowing.
2. Correct. As Gizmo said earlier, his comments were taken totally out of context.

and although there isn't a 3 I'm going to make one:

3. Folk down here all seem to hate Murray, based, I believe, on what are perceived as his anti-English views - the same people btw that jump up and down at me not supporting the England football team - and attack him on two counts: 1, the fact he's not 'nice' and2, the fact he is Scottish. The latter disturbs me but the fact he is not seen as a Henman Mr Nice Guy is worse. I'd much rather have a recalcitrant WINNER than a well-mannered and 'nice' loser. No-one remembers a runner-up.

I'm sick to the back teeth of being whined at: "We'd support you lot if Scotland were in the World Cup and we weren't" because it's total cr*p! I remember 1978!
