In February 2009, the Kintyre Drama Festival celebrates its 60th anniversary. We are delighted that in these times of
instant access movies and music, we can still draw in an audience on a cold February night. The Drama Festival forms part of the Scottish Community Drama Association competition and every year the winning team represents Kintyre ably at the
subsequent rounds.
The plays that the teams perform vary from old fashioned comedies to high dramas, but all are done by the teams with the main aim to entertain. Teams start rehearsing in the autumn of the previous year, usually in a cold church hall with coats and scarves on! We also have two junior teams who are well on their way to becoming the future of the Festival, some of the members already have got the stage bug and are attending weekend theatre schools in Glasgow.
Come along if you’ve never been before or haven’t been for a while to Campbeltown Grammar School on Thursday 19th February – Saturday 21st February. Teas and coffee or a wee G&T are available at each interval, and as its our 60th anniversary there will be a get together and buffet after the performances on the Saturday night. If you would like any more information about any aspect of the Festival, to take part in front of or behind the scenes, or to come along please give me
a call.
