Missed this one but highlights how much more help we could do with to highlight events etc in Kintyre. (so please help! 8) )

From the excellent Kintyre Cultural Forum Newsletter
In February 2009, the Kintyre Drama Festival celebrates its 60th anniversary. We are delighted that in these times of
instant access movies and music, we can still draw in an audience on a cold February night. The Drama Festival forms part of the Scottish Community Drama Association competition and every year the winning team represents Kintyre ably at the
subsequent rounds.

The plays that the teams perform vary from old fashioned comedies to high dramas, but all are done by the teams with the main aim to entertain. Teams start rehearsing in the autumn of the previous year, usually in a cold church hall with coats and scarves on! We also have two junior teams who are well on their way to becoming the future of the Festival, some of the members already have got the stage bug and are attending weekend theatre schools in Glasgow.

Come along if you’ve never been before or haven’t been for a while to Campbeltown Grammar School on Thursday 19th February – Saturday 21st February. Teas and coffee or a wee G&T are available at each interval, and as its our 60th anniversary there will be a get together and buffet after the performances on the Saturday night. If you would like any more information about any aspect of the Festival, to take part in front of or behind the scenes, or to come along please give me
a call.

I think it's only the Friday and Saturday (20th and 21st), not Thursday to Saturday as stated above.

Interesting to see that some kids from Kintyre are attending weekend drama classes/clubs in Glasgow. I take it some of them will attend SYT – Scottish Youth Theatre. These families should consider – if they don’t already – PACE in Paisley. Our girls have been attending for years, and really enjoy it – they get a lot out of the sessions, well beyond ‘acting’.

I know who my favourites are - has to be Accent Juniors and their "Unicorns and Alley Cats" - Friday night - last play of the night, a very long night for a mum to sit hoping that her wee stars don't forget lines

Decided this afternoon that Kareen and i would take the kids to the drama festival tonight for the first time for all of us.

Wasn't sure if the boys would sit at peace never mind enjoy it

but i needn,t have worried, they were riveted, especially with "Pain in the Neck", it was right up their street. :D

Well done to all the performers and behind the scenes crews, a huge amount of time, thought and practice needed to bring it all together. A bit of an eye opener for me to see the talent that is out there and the props were fantastic.

I have a job remembering "Bah Bah Black Sheep", never mind the lines these guys had to remember.

Only gripe i have is that we would maybe have liked to do the Friday night show as well but with no concessions for the kids it would have made it quite expensive for us.

We will defenitely go again.

Cheers

I think a great night was had by all and the winners

1st Accent Players
2nd Carradale Drama Club
3rd Peninver Players.

Carradale came away with two cups :D , for being second overall and the best producer (Mary MacAllister Hall).

Glad you and the family enjoyed the plays its great to hear such positive comments from folk who have never been before and I'm really pleased the boys enjoyed Pain in the Neck :)

I'm sure all of us who appear on stage and those who are behind the scenes appreciate your comments regarding what has to go on before the performance at the festival .

Your gripe about concessions for young folk is certainly valid as it is of the utmost importance that we encourage youngsters to come along to see the plays I will bring it up at the post festival meeting and hopefully there will be something in place for next year.
