No ABC football coaching during holidays

Postby Sport » Mon Mar 03, 2008 11:26 pm

No doubt a hot topic within the youth football in Campbeltown and one that appeared on the back of the Courier this week.

Despite having on average 80 children attend regular sessions of football Campbeltown will not host Argyll & Bute Council's football courses over the easter holidays. The football development officer for Argyll & Bute, Dylan Kerr, puts this down to lack of interest from the locals.

You can however travel to one of these courses.

Moved this into here as a hot topic in the Courier letters page this week.

Rather sad that the Council seem to be missing out Campbeltown when it comes to football development considering the sterling work that continues to go on by the coaches etc in the town.

For information, Total Soccer are running their course as normal over the Easter Holidays and leaflets can be picked up inMcIlcheres.

Would have made more sense for the Council to point this out in their Press Release which appeared on their website and received by the Courier. These courses have been on offer for kids in Campbeltown for a number of years and seems silly to be suggesting there is no interest when these courses are available.

Just wanted to highlight that on average 28 youngsters attended the total soccer camp last week. The two young men-Dougie and Stevie were fantastic with the kids. They had a very positive manner and were full of encouragement for the kids involved. The only advertisement that they had for these camps was through McIlchere's having leaflets on their counter and posting out leaflets to previous attendees of the camp's.
Mr Kerr could take a few pointers from this-just leaving leaflets at a school office, and not talking to teacher's or kids to try and encourage attendance, will not raise awareness in courses.
