from the BBC news site ----http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-35038278

" The Calmac summer ferry service between Ardrossan and Campbeltown is to be made permanent, it has been announced.
Transport Minister Derek Mackay said it had proved "incredibly popular" and transported an average of over 10,000 passengers and 2,000 cars per year."
Twice through the eye o' the sun to lift it.

Great news about the ferry, just wondering if the ferry will have a Saturday sailing as I would think most holiday bookings are Saturday to Saturday. It has never been a problem when I visit the town in the past (by car staying b&b), but I have been thinking of hiring a house next time I visit, no problem if traveling by car. I have been on the ferry and would like to use it again, will have to have a good look at timetable when published.

Good news.I weigh the cost of continuous road travel against ferry tariff plus car fuel and it seems to work out at similar costs.
Perhaps I need a more economical vehicle.

Good news ! We've used the early morning sailing from Ardrossan via Arran and agree that it works out about the same cost and time wise. But it is nice to start your holiday with a sail when you've done the road run so many times. Regards, Cathian

There is no better way to arrive in Campbeltown than by sea, it's a pity the "Hamilton & Montrose" were scraped as a lot of people would have enjoyed the trip on them, I certainly did.

The demise of the Clyde Steamers did a lot of damage to tourism in Kintyre.
