Addaction meeting targets in Argyll & Bute

Expert team is delivering drug and alcohol recovery support throughout Argyll and Bute

People in recovery from drug and alcohol problems in Argyll and Bute are benefitting from the Addaction Scotland approach which ensures they are seen quickly and where they are comfortable.

Since taking over the contract for drug and alcohol recovery services on 1 January, the charity has built up a list of 87 clients in Argyll and Bute. Its expert team has been getting out and about in local communities, seeing every new client within 72 hours and many within 24 hours.

Addaction always puts service user needs first and that includes meeting where it suits the client. So far the team in Argyll and Bute has visited people in their homes and met others in places such as community centres and GP surgeries.
Regional manager Roseanne Mcluskie said: “Experience has taught us that people in recovery often prefer the anonymity of a GP practice or a social work office rather than a place that is obviously an addiction service. That’s especially true in small close-knit communities.”

Director of Operations, Addaction Scotland, Andrew Horne continued: “Setting up new services always brings new challenges. We learn fast from our service users and our partners what works best. So far we are really pleased with our progress. Feedback from the people we are here to serve is really positive and that, in the end, is what really matters”
Christina West, Chair of the Argyll and Bute Alcohol and Drug Partnership added: “The Argyll and Bute Alcohol and Drug Partnership is working closely with Addaction to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of service users. I am also pleased that Addaction has already met with so many clients over the last month and that they are committed to meeting with these individuals in the most appropriate setting for their needs.”

Anyone in Argyll and Bute who needs drug or alcohol recovery support can contact the Addaction team by phone at 0800 2061460 or by email at argyllandbute@addaction.org.uk.

This was another press release from Addaction received earlier this month too.

Addaction’s arrival in Argyll and Bute is good news for people with alcohol and drugs problems
Addaction has hit the ground running in Argyll and Bute.

In the first ten days since the charity took over alcohol and drug recovery services in the area, it was in contact with 60 people in need of help and provided support to clients from Dunoon, Oban, Bute and Campbeltown.

During a week-long induction of staff members who had transferred from previous service providers, five experienced pathfinders were brought in from other parts of Scotland to ensure there was no disruption to service.
Eight clients were referred from Oban and five from Bute during that first week. A pathfinder contacted each one within 48 hours and many were visited in their own homes. Where relevant, there have been follow-up meetings and further appointments have been lined up for later in January.

Addaction substance misuse workers in Dunoon hosted a group meeting for five people in recovery for alcohol and there are already plans underway to develop Mutual Aid Partnership groups.

Patrick Neary had worked for a previous service provider for eight years and transferred to Addaction on January 1. He said: “I have found Addaction to be a forward looking organisation with a professional approach. During induction my opinions and those of my colleagues were taken on board and we had input into the shaping of local services.
“This professionalism and respect extends to the service user. I worked alongside established Addaction staff during that week and was impressed with the way they dealt with clients’ enquiries and in their personal interactions with them.
“The recovery orientated ethos chimes fully with my own approach. I believe that service users have the ability to recover and move on from problem alcohol or drug use and live healthy fulfilling lives. Addaction’s arrival in Argyll and Bute provides this opportunity for all our service users.”

Director of Operations, Addaction Scotland, Andrew Horne added: “We are an Argyll-wide service with an administrative office in Dunoon. Service users’ needs come first with us. To support those needs we will be active throughout the area and are happy to see people wherever they choose”

“We are extremely pleased with our progress so far. Addaction has set up over 20 services in the last 10 years but few have received the number of referrals that we have had in Argyll and Bute. There is definitely a pressing and urgent need here and we are happy to meet it.”

People in Argyll and Bute who need drugs or alcohol recovery support can contact the Addaction team by calling 0800 2061460 or by email at argyllandbute@addaction.org.uk.

If you click on the link above and follow the trail back I am sure you will take the press release with a pinch of salt. The contract is flawed and is being investigated by the Audit Commission,
