Dunstaffnage – Fort William – Tobermory – Port Ellen – Coabh - Dunstaffnage. 14 – 20 Jun 2014

Cadets Jo Chinn, Connor Chinn, Yvonne Graham, Connor Ewart, Cameron Wilkes and Suen Yee Walker recently returned from offshore training on the TS John Jerwood and enjoyed a fantastic week’s voyage around the West Coast and Isles of Scotland.

The TS John Jerwood is a 24 metre vessel used as part of the Sea Cadets’ training programme, teaching cadets teamwork and responsibilities through a range of activities based on seamanship and maritime skills. They were joined by cadets from other units, sailing from Dunstaffnage visiting Fort William, Tobermory, Port Ellen and Craobh Haven before returning to Dunstaffnage.

During the course of the week cadets were trained in navigation, bridge team duties, seamanship, deck work, engineering, cook/ steward and experienced all the duties needed to operate a vessel at sea. Cadets were also given shore leave to explore some of the islands and had the opportunity to sail past the famous Corryvreckan whirlpool.

This week Cadets Arbuckle and Cameron will also be joining either the TS Vigilant or TS City Liveryman for their offshore training.

Both offshore training courses were made possible by various funding and generous donations, enabling the unit at Campbeltown to continue to provide young people with valuable training and opportunities. Thank you for your support.

You can see photos of their voyage on the Sea Cadets Facebook page.
