Have you been to the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service in Campbeltown Library, yet?

A health and wellbeing area have been created to offer quality information for people interested in the signs of cancer, to information on treatments, through to living with or after cancer. Information is also available on topics such as how cancer affects your finances, travelling, workplace issues, etc. There are folders for information on travelling to some of the hospitals in Argyll and Glasgow which are relevant to anyone using the hospitals for the first time, as well as a folder of local and national support agencies. There is a folder currently being developed for people wanting to get involved in local groups and activities.

All of this is available as part of the library resources. The service is mainly aimed at anyone affected by cancer, for example, a person who has had a cancer diagnosis, their friends, family, or workmates, but also people who may have other long term health conditions.

The non-clinical drop-in on Thursdays 11am to 3pm to provide an opportunity for a friendly chat over a cup of tea, with information, and signposting to specialist support. The service is run by specially selected and trained volunteers in a dedicated area in the back of Campbeltown Library with an additional, more private space available for those who would like this. Outwith the drop-in sessions the area is available for anyone to use and the range of booklets on display can be taken by anyone at no cost.

A leaflet of the service can be found here http://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/sites/default/files/macmillan-generic-service-leaflet.pdf

The service is a partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support, NHS Highland, Argyll Voluntary Action and Argyll and Bute Council. It is funded to provide this free information and support in Campbeltown Library and Rothesay Library as part of the Library Service. We ask the community to help us to make people aware of the service and to give us feedback so we can know what we are doing well and what we could improve.

If you are affected by cancer and would like support now please view the wide variety of helpful information on the Macmillan Cancer Support website http://www.macmillan.org.uk or call the free helpline on 0808 808 00 00 (Mon - Fri, 9am - 8pm)
