Tom

Looks like the Old Miltary Road is open during the day until further notice. See Traffic Scotland for further details. Wouldn't you be better heading Crianlarich if you are heading for Oban anyway?

Incident Information
Date: Friday, 07 March 2014
Start Time: 07 Mar 14 - 08:52:00
Location: A83 A814 Arrochar - B828
Direction: Eastbound & Westbound
Type: Closure

Description: *******The Local diversion via The Old Military Road will close this evening at 18:30 until 07:00 tomorrow morning******* The A83 is closed between the A814 (Arrochar) and the B828 (Rest and Be Thankful) due to a landslip. BEAR Scotland's operational response is on site and with the aid of safety spotters have completed the immediate clear up operation on the A83. During daylight hours a convoy system is now operating on the Old Military Road and provides a local diversion. Whilst cars and lorries are successfully negotiating this local diversion route, lorry drivers are asked to take particular care as the route is very narrow in places. It is taking approximately 15 minutes to travel along the local diversion route in each direction. The expected delay can be between 15 and 45 minutes dependant on each phase of the convoy being operated. The weather conditions continue to hamper the full safety assessment of the situation however our Geotechnical Team continue to monitor the area to ensure safety at the location. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully along the local diversion route. Further updates to follow as activity on-site progresses. Overnight the standard diversion via Crainlarich, Tyndrum and Dalmally will be in operation.

Delay: It is taking approximately 15 minutes to travel along the diversion route in each direction

Cause: Landslip

Diversion: Traffic should follow the signed diversion route. Westbound traffic will be diverted at the A82/A83 Junction Tarbet to the A82/85 Crianlarich. Users will then follow the A82 to Tyndrum and the A85 from Tyndrum to Dalmally, then the A819 to the A83 Inveraray. The Eastbound diversion will be the reverse of this. Arrangements for Abnormal Loads : The Local Diversion Route via the Old Military Road is not suitable for Abnormal Loads or rigid vehicles above 15.5 metres in length and drivers will be required to make alternative arrangements via the Standard Incident Diversion Route. Motorists may wish to consider an alternative route using the Western Ferry service route between Dunoon and Gourock. Visit http://www.western-ferries.co.uk/ for further information. Or contact them directly using Western Ferries (Clyde) Limited Hunter's Quay Dunoon Argyll PA23 8HJ T: 01369 704452 F: 01369 706020 E: enquiries@western-ferries.co.uk www.western-ferries.co.uk Office opening hours: Monday to Friday - 9am to 5pm
Expected Duration: Until Further Notice
