South Kintyre Development Trust (SKDT) is delighted to announce that it has been awarded £1,000,000 from Big Lottery Growing Community Assets fund for the Town Hall project.
This award means we have all the funding in place to bring Campbeltown Town Hall back into full use. We will use the funds to transform the building into a fully accessible, comfortable community hub that is fit for the 21st century. At the heart of the building will be a one stop shop providing a range of advice, information and support from SKDT's partner organisations. There will be office space and hot desks for business use and the main hall will also be available for conference and social events including; coffee mornings, parties, weddings and exhibitions.
We are grateful for the support of the community who have filled in questionnaires, attended planning events and become members of SKDT over the past three years. We have worked closely with and secured funding from Argyll & Bute Council's THI and CHORD programme teams to make our vision for Campbeltown Town Hall a reality.
Tracy Grant, Local Development Officer said, “This is a tremendous boost to SKDT, all the volunteers and community members who have helped to shape the project. Many people have committed their time, energy and vision to bring this project to life.”
The Town Hall project complements the physical and economic regeneration taking place in Campbeltown and SKDT believes that increased activity in the town centre will create economic benefits for all.
Other funders of the project include: Campbeltown Townscape Heritage Initiative, Argyll & Bute Council CHORD programme, Highlands & Islands Enterprise, Argyll & the Islands LEADER, Big Lottery Awards for All, Campbeltown Common Good Fund and Kintyre Civic Society.
We expect construction to begin in Spring 2014, with reopening in Summer 2015.
The Big Lottery Fund, the largest distributor of National Lottery good cause funding, is responsible for giving out 40% of the money raised for good causes by the National Lottery.
The Fund is committed to bringing real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need and has been rolling out grants to health, education, environment and charitable causes across the UK. Since its inception in 2004 we have awarded close to £6bn.
The Fund was formally established by Parliament on 1 December 2006. [/b]
