Two exciting training events organised by the Campbeltown Townscape Heritage Initiative

Two free shop front events are being held in Campbeltown as part of the Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) training programme.

The first is being held on Wednesday 13 February at the Arshiel Hotel from 7.30pm until 9pm. This evening lecture is aimed at local shop owners, community group members and anyone with an interest in the history and significance of shop fronts.

The second event will take place on Thursday 14 February at the Arshiel Hotel from 9am until 1pm and is a shop front masterclass aimed at local tradesmen, building professional and planners. Topics covered will include materials and their conservation, conserving traditional shop fronts, signs and advertising. Lunch will be provided and you will need to book for this course.

Both sessions are being delivered by Dr Lindsay Lennie, an expert in historic shop conservation. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss specific issues relating to shop fronts.

Lead Councillor for the Environment, Development and Infrastructure, John Semple said, “This is another excellent training opportunity being provided by the THI as part of its programme and I would encourage as many people to go along as possible.

“We are fortunate that the majority of historic shop fronts still exist in Campbeltown town centre and every effort should be made to conserve these. Local people are once again being given the opportunity to benefit from the knowledge of nationally acknowledged experts.”

For further information or to book a place on the 14 February you should contact:

Both training events are free and refreshments will be available. They are funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Argyll and the Islands LEADER.
